There is a recent thread that suggested the idea of a Monthly Match for NUAH Members to participate in.... I suggested a simple change to the NUAH target to add one additional scoring ring by splitting the old 9-ring in half, scoring 9 for the 3 MOA inner half and 8 for the 4 MOA outer half.... The old 8-ring scores 7, and the old 7-ring then scores 6.... This will help avoid ties by making the target more challenging when shooting for a score.... but the coloured area of the target (the 4 MOA ring) remains the same size (4") so nothing changes in regards to using the target to qualify for membership in NUAH.... The new target has the same proportional sizes for the scoring rings as the NRA 600 yard MR-1 target, scaled down by a factor of 6 for use at 100 yards.... The new targets are still scalable by printing at increased percentage for use at distances between 100-200 yard for NUAH qualification use.... Here are the new targets, you can click on the image to enlarge them a bit....

Once I had the new targets drawn out, and realized that we now had a 3 MOA ring printed on the target, I realized that we now have the ability to change the requirements to qualify for "Expert", and I propose the following change.... instead of requiring a 1 MOA group within the 4 MOA circle....
Expert - all 5 shots inside or touching the 3 MOA ring, and the group is 1.5 MOA or smaller C-T-C. (3 MOA ring on the target is required.)
I have reviewed all the current members in the Sharpshooter category, and have found three (3) shooters that could be upgraded to Expert (and I am not one of them).... I am therefore recommending that we adopt the new requirements to qualify for Expert, and in addition upgrade those shooters as well.... Please select your choice in the poll above.... I have set it to run for 10 days.... You may only select one option, but you are allowed to change your vote as long as the poll runs.... After the poll closes, I will forward the results to Marty2 for action.... If the new target is accepted, there are some details in the text of the rules that will be edited for clarification, of course.... Thanks for your participation in this poll....

rsterne, thanx for your work on this.
Just have to go back and delete all the old NUAH targets I have downloaded in the past!
-
Yeah, won't we all, if the rule change passes.... ::) .... but I think this simple change to the target, and the improvement to the Expert rules, is well worth that small hassle.... 8)

Once again, Mr. Sterne, you prove yourself to be one of the most generous people around! Thank you for all the work you've done and put me down as a supporter of the tweak.
I always felt like Expert was a little too close to Master and rewarded consistency over accuracy. Not that consistency isn't great, just that I always try to hit the center and it felt wrong to me to chase a tight group that wasn't centered on the target.
Can't wait to get back out to the range and poke holes in some "new and improved" targets!

I'm for it but I just printed 100 targets to try lol.
-
I like the new targets.
And I think the rule change would bump me up to Expert so I really like that too!!!
Would this target qualify for Expert?

You bet, Jim, you are 1 of the 3 I found when doing my homework.... *grin*....

Come on guys cast a vote. I know there is more than 12 of you out there that are interested in NUAH. This is something we may have to live with so steer it the way you want it to go.
FYI I'm for it.
-
Sounds good to me, as soon as it warms up here in NY and dries out a little,
I'm hoping to do some more target and at further distances.
-
I like the new targets, I really like the all white and maybe the yellow center. I have a hard time seeing the pellets holes in the black at 100 yards

Target comparison with the new rules. I have 2 targets one could have been a 50 with the old rules but only a 48 with the new rules. Second target was 49 1X with the old rules but only a 48 1X with the new rules. With the old rules the first target has a 1 1/8 CTC inside the 2MOA circle. The second has a 1 5/8 CTC inside the 3MOA. So while target 1 gets me a better NAUH rating target 2 gets me a better match score.

Does the vote apply to current NUAH members or can a "not yet a member" vote?
-
Ricky, you are correct, but there are two things going on there, and only one of them has anything to do with THIS thread and Poll.... and that is whether or not you like the new target for use in NUAH qualifications.... For THAT, there is no difference, as the score doesn't matter.... There is a second part to this Poll, and that is whether or not you want to see the Expert rating change from 1 MOA within the 4 MOA circle to 1.5 MOA within the (new) 3 MOA circle.... For NUAH qualification, touching the line counts as INSIDE that MOA ring.... Your first target, under the new (proposed) rules, would qualify as Expert, as you state....
The issue of how you score the target, for the proposed Matchs, is entirely another subject.... The splitting of the old 9-ring into the (proposed) 9 and 8-rings is to make it harder to get a high score, particularly with only 5 shots.... The concept of scoring only clean shots INSIDE a ring, with shots touching a ring counting the lower value belongs in the Match thread discussion.... It is being tried as an EXPERIMENT to try and equalize the difference between calibers.... That is all explained in the Match thread.... http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=122421.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=122421.0)
d.lead.slinger please vote, we want all the input we can get.... there is no restriction to NUAH members only....

Well, the poll is over, and 20 out of 23 who voted would like to see the new targets, and have the Expert rules changed to a 1.5 MOA C-T-C group within (or touching) the 3 MOA (the new 9) ring.... plus have the guys who would have qualified under those rules upgraded to Expert status from Sharpshooter.... I am therefore recommending to marty2 that he proceed with those changes.... The guys eligible for upgrade to Expert are.... *drumroll please*....
sixshootertexan (Ricky)
jhm757 (Jim)
marty2 (Marty)
Ridge Runner (Burke)
If anyone else thinks they have already qualified as Expert, please let Marty or me know....
Bob
-
Woohoo!
I put a new scope on my rifle and shot some Sunday afternoon. I am not going to show those targets. ;)
-
We have received a request for an upgrade from Blue also.... I have forwarded it to marty2 for his decision.... and moved the thread up to the top so everyone can see it.... If there is anyone else we missed, please let us know....

I am going to be the one PITA, but can we also get a target with the X only in black?
I want to try the 6-oclock hold vs the Navy hold this go around.
-
Simply colour in the X on the white target.... It was made exactly for that purpose, so guys can colour it as they choose....
