:'(Man am I bummin, I just sunk a .22 CPHP into the display screen on my brand new chrony during the first time I used it. It still powers on and off but the display is wasted, it still shows a flashing dash when it's turned on but it doesn't display anything else... I'm pretty sure it can refurbished and I hope Pyramyd Air works with me on it, I hope I don't have to eat the whole 85 bucks.
Before I ruined it I was able to test my new G1 Xtreme and my new Trail XL 1100. Start with the Trail, it was delivered last Saturday evening, opened it on Sunday, first thing I noticed was some messed up bluing. All within an area of about one square inch there are six ugly spots. The first one about the size of an orange seed, next about the size of a cooked grain of rice, then two about the size of pin heads and two more about the size pin points. I decided if it was a good shooter that the cosmetic flaws would be OK. I could sure use some advice, shooting with CPHP, my Trail 1100 shot a high of 891, quite a few shots in the 860's and 870's but what stood out were three very low numbers, a low of 458 fps and then a shot at 470 fps and another at 515 fps. Is it possible those three low numbers were errant? I probably put close to a hundred shots through the gun before I chrony'd it so bottom line, are these numbers typical for the 1100 or is it underperforming?
Should I return it and demand another one with better bluing? Heck, my 99$ G1 has perfect bluing. Speaking of the G1, that screamer had a high 975 and a low of 943 with regular Crosman pointed pellets. I took care to clean the rails with alcohol and used loctite and the front scope ring still came loose and the scope scooted back, I had to re-zero.

WOW... thats to bad about your chrony... Mike
-
U need a bullet proof shield in front of chrony if u gonna shoot at it,,:) Bummer and sorry to hear that. I shot CDT's chrony once but just the metal part...:) Got Lucky...:)
-
OUCH!!!!
-
Was it an 800 or a 400 fps shot that nailed the chrony? ;-)
-
Any good chrony recipes? ;) Sorry to hear that!

Thanks Mike, When I saw what happened, my stomach sank but it's pretty minor as far as accidents go. I think I was getting tired from cocking that thing so much... anyway thanks again.

You probably all heard about that guy who eats all kinds of stuff that shouldn't be eaten, I bet he has some good side dishes for it!

G1's are awesome, sorry about the chrony ;D
And compared to the Trail 1100, the G1 is a bargain at 99$ and sometimes Dicks has them on sale for ten or twenty bucks less.

i think you can get a new display from Chrony
or send in the whole unit for a upgrade

I'll have to look into that. I think I'll start with a call or email to Pyramyd Air.

Any other other Trail 1100 owners out there that have an opinion on a high of 891 fps? And what about those those three low numbers, twice in the 400's?
-
check their web site
i saw it in the manual that comes with the chrony
-
Mine stays at around 890 fps, would say to continue the testing as it could just be an errant couple of shot's, BUT you done killed your chrony LOL. Don't feel bad norka you should see what a .300 win. mag does to one, not enough pieces to even ship back, think the sky screen's even had tears in them.

Here's my armored chrony:

Sorry to read about your brand new chrony. Use a one piece mount on a springer....the two pieces will move on you.

You can try calling Shooting Chrony directly to see what they charge for an LCD replacement.
1-800-385-3161 (9 am - 5 pm E.S.T.)
http://www.shootingchrony.com/order_direct.htm (http://www.shootingchrony.com/order_direct.htm)
They also have a page where they will trade in for brand new upgraded models, and they will even accept shot up Chronys in trade.
http://www.shootingchrony.com/products_TTIYC.htm (http://www.shootingchrony.com/products_TTIYC.htm)
Back in 1989, I shot my Paleozoic F-1 (no metal rods, no port, and the diffusers were entirely made of cardboard) with one of my heavy handloads from my .45 Colt Ruger Blackhawk.
As I recall from the time, they charged me about $50 to replacement the LCD.
I still use that same Chrony to this day, so they stand up pretty well.

norka,
Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Over the years I have shot two Chronys myself. Now I have learned to aim higher!!! I just ordered a new one from Midway yesterday.
-
Yup need a Chrony shield. I put a half an inch plexy shield in front of my chrony after hearing about brother Gene using brother Bob's for target practice hehe. It's lasted over 4yrs now and has taken several in your face hit's. Ed
-
Yaaa, that "instinctive", hip-shot chronying will do it every time, folded back the rear sensor cover the first day I got mine, guess it was a "lucky" shot! Not to worry, here on the GTA, you're in good company, literally! ;) :D :D :D
pv
PS... I would think your seal is not 100% with those 400+fps shots, I think I'd send her back before you get too much time and $$$ invested in her. Should take about a week "In House", just about the time you get the crony back together, and you still have one to shoot.
-
Ha, Ha, gotta love the bullet proof glass and armor plating!
Chrony Upgrade-
I have used Shooting Chrony's upgrade program for shot up chrony's and it's cheaper than a new one and fast. I just wish more than just Norka and I would admit the same blunder. :o
They explain the replacement/upgrade program on their website. I shot a shroud over top of mine one time ....less than 200 fps.... I was trying to hit 300 really..... but then hit it with a .458 bullet. :'(
You print out a form, box it up with a check. It allows you to upgrade at the same time if you want to. I upgraded mine, so shooting it was really a good thing.

Wow you guys, lloyd, uncle paulie, and all the rest, I sure appreciate the advice and oldplink, thanks for the details at Chrony. I sent an email to P.A. about the Trail this morning, haven't heard back yet.
Now I'm having trouble with my new G1, I had it zeroed and shooting fine yesterday then I noticed the scope was all of a sudden about an inch or two further back in the rail, the front ring came loose. I tightened everything back up and now it won't zero, it's all over the place at 25 yards. The scope looks fine when I look through it but is it possible it got damaged when the ring came loose? When it rains it pours... HELP!norka,

Aim higher! You got that right, WhiteyStu.

Where did you find half inch plexy?
-
Dont feel to bad i think everybody thats owned a chrony has put at least one round in it. Lol mine has a few dings.
As for te trail try some jsb,s or predators through it. I never have had good luck with crossman pellets.
-
Yep that happened to mine to. right out of the box and whap. Mine did not take as good a hit as you did. It still works.

Careful, you'll shoot your eye...err, chrony out!!
Seriously, glad I read this because I received my F1 today and have been doing a lot of shooting. Gonna have to go buy some plexiglass from home depot asap!
Sorry 'bout the F1!
-
An honest bunch of souls fessing up to shooting up their shooting chrony's. Does my heart good. ;)

Let me know what you find - I wonder how thick it would need to be to stop a 950 fps 177 pellet.... sloping would work better but may make it harder to read?
-
yep.... way back when and I first met Gene before he was barely into airguns and started working with me, he wanted to shoot a gun across the crony. ;) Wouldn't you know it.... shot the thing. :o Fortunatly he hit it just at the edge of the sheet metal and didn't do any damage to the electronics. ;) He offered to buy me a new one but it was no biggie,,,lol,,, 8) What a way to start a friendship. And look at what I then created... an airgun master.... ;D ;D The best thing that could have happened to us. Gene worked under me for over two years before he struck out on his own and I then turned my business over to him. A great friend and great to work with. It's been fun Gene. ;) ;)
