there are many good brands.benji, rws, beeman, air arms, but  DO NOT exclude the china guns. they have came a looooong way. i have found that china guns are actually pretty good because they can afford to build things out of metal and wood. give mike at best airgun a ring.  http://bestairgun.stores.yahoo.net/ his guns are very very good remakes of many top end brands stated above. another plus is that there are ample parts available. he also lube tunes them!!!!! for free!!!! ...just my 2 cents...

Titan .22 as well.

And I dig my Storm xt.177

I will say this.  with the crosman chinese stuff.  You need to disasemble, clean and de-bur the gun, and relube it.  Other wise you will end up with a bad seal and lost power in the 1st 500 pellets, then it's off to the repair shop.  and you have to buy the GRTIII trigger, but it's only $32 and is amazingly different than the stock trigger.

What calibre? .22, .177? Do you plan to hunt with it or just target shooting? How far out do you think you will be shooting it? Are you looking at a rifle with wood or synthetic stock? Open sights?

yeah and in hindsight, I should have bought a better, more expensive gun, instead of a cheap gun with a ton of work needed.

Really!?  I was considering a Titan, people seem to like them.  500rds and they're junk?  Really?  "dang", back to the drawing board.

I agree with goose_78... Mike Melick does some excellent work. I bought a b-12 from him a few weeks ago and its great.

From my experience with china guns, theyre great and it's probably the way many of us got started.

Having said that i have a rws 34 and a rws/850 and theyre awesome.

The 850 is the most accurate AG I have right now

The RWS line of AGs gets my vote.
I have the 34s .177 + .22  as well as the 350 mag .177, the 34s are very accurate right out of the box and a good trigger. The 350 was a mule, did the very best tune I could possibly do, to all three along with trigger work, they are incredible.Rob

If you want something different try an IZH 513M in .22!!  Its an awesome shooter.  Maybe the lightest AG you'll hold and probably one of the most accurate.  It's not pretty, it's clanky with the bear trap, and it has a cold war feel, but if you want an AG with attitude this is it.  It's amazing how accurate it is with open sights!

IZH is a Russian military manufacturer.  This AG reflects that.

You wont be dissapointed with an rws gun. I love my 3 dont shoot most omy ohers anymore because they are that nice. But i have learned alot from working on my chinese rifles. They shoot pretty good for $30 guns and if it gets messed up in a project its not as big of a deal.

Going to be hit and miss.  they need to be de-burred, cleaned and lubed proberly.  My buddies titan and my storm ZXT were both at half power after 2 tins of 250.  Deisleing burned the seal and burrs most likely cut and nicked it.  Off for a tune and it'll be awesome.  In hindsight, buy a better gun that is ready to go Right off the truck.

I'll hop in here - even if I am a complete newbie :) lol IF you want power in a .22 break barrel the Hatsan 125 is the go - but when it comes to accuracy I have to still keep doing my pellet testing because at 10 yards I am still finding it hard to get a 3 or 5 round group that gets much less than an inch - I've had a few people tell me what the ideal pellet is for this rifle - and its not available at my local gunshop - but once I've tested it and can say its doing half an inch at 10 yards then I'll feel happy enough to tell you its ''the go'' for power AND accuracy :)

I am pretty much a novice when it comes to airguns - all my background is in long range rifles and 9mm pistols - but I look at it this way - an inch at 10 yards is probably going to be 5 inches at 50 yards - and if you're going to be hunting small/medium sized game at 50 yards it WILL make a difference when it comes to your shot placement :) Johnno...
