I am getting prepped for the start of the FT season and had to finish off my side wheel. The scope is a Hawke Sidewinder 30 8-32 with a wheel but the spacing for 30-50+yards is really tight so I needed a bigger wheel. No this is not an Eric Sanders work of art. (I have the honor of shooting with Eric from time to time and in fact he was my first FT partner. If you need a wheel for the Big Boy$ like BSAs, Nikko Diamonds and Leupys he's the man.) Instead this started as a $5 Oatey toilet bowl flange. After drilling and dremeling (and not so great I might add) I shot with a few coats of flat black. Flat tends to obscure the really bad material relief job!
My next challenge was how to make an index pointer. I had some 30mm Weaver rings in the junk box and thought I'm never going to use a Weaver mount. So grind, grind with the cutoff wheel and bench grinder. Hmm, about to cut out a piece of metal for a pointer when I found this "green fork" from one of my most memorable rounds of golf. Now I can always remember it while I'm shooting!
Just need to use the laser rangefinder to mark off the yardages. So what do you think?

looks great ;D I like the pointer very trick
doesn't look like a toilet flange anymore great work

That super cool --- looks like a fly ( fishing ) reel spool
Bravo:-)

The Wheel... is the Deal !
Very clever idea, and nicely done! Gotta love it!
The trash to treasure ideas are always my favorite.

I don't think it looks half bad, plus it's got to be much more satisfying seeing something you made up on your own.
Have a great shoot.

A toilet bowl flange?? Now I've seen it all and can die peacefully.
Hopefully at some time way in the future, way way in the future.

AWESOME!! ;D Absolutely ingenious and dirt cheap... make sure to only use new ones thou... ;)

Love that stock... Mike

I have to admit it was Mr. Whiscombe, James Brinkley's original thought. I do think mine is more "machined" than his. The golf motif is my original contribution.
The stock was a DIY I got off another forum. As soon as I saw it in person I put the original up for sale! Got a pretty decent price on it so this target stock was "relatively" cheap.

Couldnt agree more there is a certain something about something you make and use!

There is not a thing wrong with that, Andy. Great job and looking forward to hearing how you do in the tournaments.

Looks like a piece of art....and the rifle's beautiful too.

That turned out great! It doesn't take a bunch of $$$ equipment to make cool stuff!
-
....And you can give rides on the ferris wheel between rounds!LOL!! Just kidding, gonna have to make me one of them, but what did you use to get the wax off the flange so the paint would stick ??? ;)
