Title: been out of it for a while - How's the Diana RWS 34 still stand?
Post by: louisssss on February 18, 2017, 01:12:37 AM
I've been mia from this forum for over a year. i still love my guns and shooting. Its just that in nyc you can't shoot anywhere. Just wondering, How's the RWS Diana 34 w/ Hawke Sport HD 4-12x50 scope still compare to whats on the market for this price? I remember getting these 2 things + the RWS lockdown mount for $325.

Even though I haven't owned one personally, they are still a winning combo and will never go out of style.  I went the HW route vs the Diana but there are many still out there that love their D34s.  Seems like you're in one camp or the other.  They accomplish the same thing with a different style is all.

You might have to spend a couple more bucks for your set up but still worth it.

I feel the Diana 34 is hands down the best value in air rifles today.  I think the Hawke Sport line has be replaced by the Vantage series.  I do have a Hawke Sport on my Diana 35 but my 34 has a UTG.

Glad I chose the Diana 34 as my first air rifle purchase. I've upgraded to a UTG mount and scope. $468 total. Even with the UTG compensation mount, I shimmed the rear scope mount to get the adjustment in the center of it's range. Also got scope mounts with 6 lock down screws. Scope hasn't budged after using these. I have over 6,000 pellets through it since last April. I do have a recurring issue with galling on the upper rear portion of the compression tube caused by the rear of the piston while cocking. I sand, polish and lube and it's good for a couple months or so and then have to do it again. I do shoot a lot though.

Tom was right, they don't make the Sport HD series anymore, it's now the Vantage line and to get the 4-12x50 you have to get one with an Illuminated reticle which runs about $175 unless you can find them on sale.
I don't own an RWS 34 but from lots of reading, they still come with the same quirks they always have. The lowest I think I've seen a new one was $240 during a sale or you can usually find refurbs for $180 to $190 at places like Airgun Depot or Field Supply.

I picked up a D34p 22cal. referb and on a lightning sale from AGD for a $150.  That left me plenty of $$$$ to buy a Bushnell Trophy and a PG2 tune kit.   I have less than $400 in it and this gun is crazy accurate. Keep an eye out and you can get a 34 for a really good price.

+1

D-34 is pretty much the standard by which other affordable sporter springers are compared... it it still compares very favorably.

I will eventually get one.

I have one in .177 TO5 trigger . And a .22 with the TO6 trigger. The TO6 trigger is nice and smooth . I put a vortek in both for a nice smooth shot cycle . Great gun for the money .

I got one from Amazon awhile back last year for $168 shipped! New, with 4x32 scope and mount in 22 cal.

Really powerful and accurate.  For the price it was awesome.  But I still prefer my older Beeman R8 over the RWS.  The Weirauch guns are very high quality even in German standards.

I sold it cause I really didn't need it.  I got a Benjamin 392 this year but the RWS 34 was a lot better gun.

That's some nice shooting on the 34! It is a tack driver out of the box!  I was enjoying the fiber optic open sights since they were pretty good when I had it.  These German rifles are pretty awesome!

I had a mint 34 Classic donated to me by our illustrious leader and all around great guy ezman604. ;D Sweetest shooter I have ever had the privilege to put my hands on. Mine is stock, but after a 100 rounds or so, she is smooth as silk, both in the cocking cycle, and in shooting. The T06 is the best trigger I have ever used. The fit and finish are all you would expect from a German made gun. So I would definitely attest that the 34 is in great standing and I think everyone should own one as their first, or last springer. Now I have yet to figure out what she likes for pellets as I got mine rather late in the season. But you can bet once the snow melts, I'll be out there with different pellets, my chrony, and some sunscreen, finding what mein Fraulein likes to shoot! 8)

They had that on sale last month for $229.
I had it in my basket for a week, but never went through the checkout line.

Great shooting. I've got a 34p in .22 and love it. Had to buy the 34 pro compact when it was on sale. It's on back order, can't wait.

I have both a Diana 34 and a AA TX200. My D34 is a wonderful rifle: accurate (dime-size groups at 30 yards) and fairly light. A good go-to gun for pest control. It is also my go-to target gun when the temperature is below 40 degrees, since I can wear light-weight shooting gloves and still load the gun with my pellet pens.

It's true that my TX200 is more accurate (dime size groups out to 50 yards), but it is heavy and impossible to load in cold weather. Because of this, I will never part with my Diana 34!

Enjoy your D34!

The D34 is still slightly hold sensitive..., but that all will be compensated by -IMHO- the best non match trigger out there: THE T06 !!! Sweet...

Is there any difference between the ones that are listed as Diana RWS 34 and  just RWS34 or Diana 34 ?

I too have a D34P. I think it's a great rifle. It's actually out being tuned right now. Should be a week or two before I get it back. I have a feeling that it is going to exceed my highest expectations. I am looking forward to sending some pellets down range. See which ones are most accurate.
