Title: Love those FD PCPs
Post by: avator on February 17, 2017, 03:45:29 PM
Fooled around and let my 100cf scuba tank run out of visual inspection and hadn't got around to getting it done in a few months. Been playing with other toys. Made the trip to the dive shop last week and got it done. Grabbed the 2 1st gen FDPCPs in .22 off the rack this morning and headed out to the shooting bench. After wiping 3 months of dust off of them I filled them up. 30 yds out with Ultra Mags just stacks lead with both of them. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Nice ! Getting a tank refilled is its own reward but guns still dialed, that's real nice. Enjoy.

Glad to hear other people are still enjoying them.

Mine get constant exercise, unless I am throwing in another custom part from Stalwart. Should be one new part for each of then coming this year.

I know mine will be. And one of them is still sporting that awesome trigger group you sent. ;)

Appreciate the plug, bud!

There is no substitute for sear width.

It's funny I just saw this thread.
Just last night I was talking to Nick, telling him about my Bottled "Shadow-ized" FD/PCP... and saying that I will bring it out to the permission next time we go, (Weather permitting).

I was hoping to get out this weekend for some shooting fun, But the rain shut us down again, GRRR !
This makes 7 weekends in a row that is either raining, soggy, too windy, or all three !
didn't go last weekend at all, so now I'm looking at 3 weeks with no trigger time !
 I think I'll just go cry like a little girl now.  :(  :-\  :'(  :P

Maybe if I grab the FD and show it a little love, it can help to make me dry my tears.
I love that little gun, and it is certainly one that will stay in my stable forever.

These things will be around forever. 8)

I know my .22 will be,  and hoping someday to play with it's big brother  ;)  :D  ;D

I've got 2 generation 2 FDPCPS both .22cal one setup for 14.3 gr pellets at 22fpe the other is setup to be a real beast 50 fpe with 32.4 gr Eun Jin or 34 gr JSB. Both are dead accurate

Each of the 3 I got originally were bought with an optional .177 barrel included. Caliber swapping is a breeze. And with hidden wood grain like this what's not to love? And a 20 shot string at near 4% es at 20 <>fpe.
$100 seriously?

Got to say my first Gen FD 22 and 177s are still some of my most fun shooting guns I own and never fail to hold air and shoot one hole groups at 30 yards. Its the best 100 bucks I have ever spent on a air gun.

I sure do enjoy mine and since Mr. Stalwart made it a repeater what's not to like. Now I just have to get the time and better whether when I'm off to shoot it.

With the maximus and beeman chief both out I am a bit shocked uramex has not release a pcp version of the fusion.

Count another one still running, believe it's a Gen I.  Have always been amazed at how well it does on a 1500psi fill.  Somehow, I don't think a 3K version would surprise me so much.

(It did get a new scope recently)

Have made HPA rifles from QB's and Crosmans, but decided that I really didn't want to hang a tank on that air tube.  Have enough fat airguns, some should just stay lean.

Know there are other owners, but like most airguns, once you get them tuned and set up to what you want them to do, they don't get written about so often.

I think one of the things I really like is that big beefy bolt and bolt handle. If I ever did an improvement to mine I think it would be one of Stalwart's repeater receivers and enough mags to get through a fill. I'm pretty sure I would blow through some serious air and lead. But then again, there goes the whole concept of an awesome little $100 gun. However, I do have 2 of them..

Supposedly the machining on the fusions is better. I have been dreaming about a fusion based .45 in a xs60c wood stock. Just not sure it can breathe well enough for a .45.

Not that I can tell (have a Fusion as well) from taking them apart and measuring...but just one-gun samples.

Steven... although a .45 is the limit imposed by the dimensions of the gun, it remains to be seen what it can support as far as breathing. RMM (Mike) and I are putting together a 9mm with a Cothran valve, which, given that valve's record in Discos, should be quite a heavy puncher.

This platform works well at "low" pressures because the design breathes so well... the short transfer path (and the ability to cut ports any shape and size) gives us a lot of room to play in.

We shall see...

Ribbonstone... I'm waist deep in these things, and can tell you, with certainty, that there are G1s out there that are every bit as good as Fusions. I also have a small pile of G1 parts (receivers) that aren't even close when it comes to tube threads and the seal area. My 3K conversion reworks that whole area, so *nothing* is going to waste here.

The G1 barrels were not cut (OD) concentric with the bores (some are close, but as I cut them down to fit custom P17s, and cut the OD concentric, at the same time, I couldn't care less... they are real hitters, that's all that matters).

I remain their biggest fan... regardless of variant.

I really don't want to revisit this but let's make sure we differentiate from the ones we have a warning posted about. There's no expiration on that warning.

To elaborate on the above, for those who are new to these:

See this thread before buying any used FDPCP: http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=96148.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=96148.0)

This problem was only encountered with the G1s altered by Flying Dragon Air rifles. There has been zero problems with any other XS60s, and as I have the only remaining G1s NIB, and don't sell them to the general public (only those in the know, and only as customs for the truly addicted), the FDPCPs are the only potential problem.

Umarex dropped their prices on the Fusion $30, and all the sellers have followed suit. If you like a rifle (as pointed out by Ribbonstone) that is actually agile in the field, and at a great price (~$130)... check them out. Every mod that can be done to this platform ( http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?PHPSESSID=aebe8e2e62ffe9b83525a064a7172ef9&topic=59114.20 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?PHPSESSID=aebe8e2e62ffe9b83525a064a7172ef9&topic=59114.20) ) applies to the Fusion... and many nice things can be done by the user, with simple tools. Beware, though, that once a person begins to personalize their guns, it can lead to some serious addictions.  ;)

Let me be clear on that.....really haven't decided if the Fusion gets taken apart for parts or not.  Has been an on-off kind of rifle for me,  about 1/2 the time it just refuses  to behave right.  I do not like the plastic trigger housing, but can live with it...the safety is one of my least favorites...and it has this shoot great/shoot horrible bi-polar personality.

OK...confessing...I got so tired of that safety that I removed the parts and tossed them over the fence long ago.

I'll give it a try...bee just sitting there neglected for quite some time.

I have a couple personal Fusions... I love them. That safety system is all that is available on either the Fusion or G2... I do have plenty of G1 trigger groups, if that plastic bugs you as much as it does me, but there is another solution: You can't tell what they are made of once they are CeraKoted.

When you tossed those parts, did you replace the sears with G1 parts?

I am glad to hear someone else is going to test out the big bore angle first on these. I don't mind a bit of a rainbow trajectory, but I would like it to have the power for pigs at 50 yards. In an ideal world we could get .45 colt performance. The 9mm should give everyone a good idea of what is possible. Is there a thread on that build yet?

The strike point, that one I want to be a Guinea pig for.

The 60s breath better than the other 7/8 guns (disco, QB, etc), and are the same in all other important aspects, so I fully expect to get similar performance to existing guns. Mike's rig and my Gauntlet are getting Cothran valves and GRS, so they should be able to find the limitations of the 7/8" tube.

They will be featured in my existing threads.

Yeah, we're going to have fun with the Strike Point...

Just to make sure I don't confuse anyone.

I was not disparaging the XS60C/FDPCP/Fusion, I love both of mine. Stalwart can attest to this, only he knows what I have actually spent on them.

They are a nice set of twins.

One marginally smaller than the other... both quite effective.

Still need to get those barrels cerakoted to match at some point.

The .22 being without TKO and massive scope is so light and short I think I will have to get a red dot or really small scope.

You won't regret keeping one light and agile. It's what the XS60 was born to be.

I use dots and Bug Busters on these, whenever I want something quick to shoot.
