Title: Removing Breech mrod varmint
Post by: Taekwondoguy on February 16, 2017, 12:27:44 PM
I got a varmint.22 about a month ago and the bolt is getting very hard to push all the way forward and down. Started being just a little difficult to push down, now it's both even without a pellet in it? Any suggestions on how I can fix this myself?

I got this advice in response to my question from  Mrodair Remove the breech and inspect the cocking lug on the bottom of the bolt probe.

May have backed out a turn.

Should be locktited.

Rare issue, but it has happened once before.

Is it necessary to degas when removing breech?

I sent another email Monday asking this but I have yet to get a response and I'm kind of in a hurry  to get this fixed and get back in the woods because the end of this month is the end of the season.  I would do it anyway but now I can't get the bolt to go all the way down at all and the only method of degassing is by dry firing

yes it is necessary to degas before removal due to one of the bolts that you will have to remove in order to remove the stock from the action also does double duty in retaining the valve in the tube... PITA design in my opinion.

To answer your original question, I would say mrod air is correct in their diagnosis of your problem. That's the only thing that comes to my mind that could be a cause of that sort of issue.

Other than some sort of foreign object stuck in the action ...

Good luck! Hope you can get it straightened out before season ends...

Will I still be able to refill with a hand pump, I know some guns once they're empty you can only refill from a tank and unfortunately I don't have one yet.
