Title: Attention Airgunners! - Bench Rest & Field Target competition ***CANCELLED***
Post by: mcoulter on February 10, 2017, 02:19:37 PM
Who’s interested in an outdoor two-day airgun Bench Rest & Field Target competition near Rochester NY

Get email updates here!  http://bit.ly/airguncomp (http://bit.ly/airguncomp)

We’ve already secured a fantastic venue right off the NY State Thruway.  This competition will be hosted on the grounds of Pinnacle Athletic Campus which is located in Victor NY.  This location is within walking distance to great hotels and restaurants and is a very short drive from the EastView Mall.

(For anyone who isn’t familiar with this part of the state, it’s not far from the Finger Lakes region with its wineries, fantastic views, sunsets and of course the lakes themselves.  It’s truly a great place for a family trip!)

OK, back to the event…  This Bench Rest competition & Field Target competition will be appropriate for all types and levels of shooters.  The Bench Rest distances will range from 25 yards through 100 yards so even if you’ve never shot outside of your backyard – much less in a competition – COME, try your hand at it, and have FUN!

Here are the event details as we have them now:

Here’s the “chicken and egg” part.  We have some MAJOR airgun sponsors lined up, BUT we need to get an estimate of how many people would COMMIT to participating in this event before these sponsors sign on the dotted line!

So if we get enough folks to commit to attending we’ll get the sponsors and there will be some awesome prizes!

But wait!  There’s more!

Really, here’s the best part…  If we can make this work, this June event will be just the beginning of what we expect will be a great long-term relationship with Pinnacle Athletic Campus.

Consider the prospect of having INDOOR and OUTDOOR Bench Rest and Field Target shooting!  This means there WILL be both Bench Rest and competitions like this EVEN IN THE WINTER in a well-lighted  and heated facility!  That kind of takes the winter-blues away doesn’t it!

How cool would it be having a premiere Indoor sporting facility host and support air gunning all year long? But we have to keep focused on making the first event a success.  So what’s next?  We would like to use this poll to gauge initial interest in this event.

Please vote YES ONLY if you truly feel you can make it to the event.

Questions, comments, suggestions?  Please post them below.  We would like to hear from you. (Even if you do not plan on coming, please tell us what doesn’t work for you.)  This is all valuable information for us.

Oh, if you’re close enough to want to help out in the event PM me!  Many hands make light work.

Thanks!

 - Matt

Any idea what the hours will be? I am only about 1.5 hours away so I rather avoid a hotel.

This is such a bummer. I bought plane tickets yesterday to go on vacation June 27th. My boss would never let me take off two days just  before a two week vacation. As my wife and I were planning the trip I mentioned how I'd like to do a competition. Anyone know if there is anything else around here? (I'm in the Hudson valley). That being said if it becomes an annual event I'll put in for next years competition off tomorrow

Sounds like a great event and venue.  I would really like to come but unfortunately June is a bad time for me, especially this year :-\.  I would quite possibly be interested in some winter events as I am off during January and February.

I'm a little too far away to attend, but Good Luck! It sounds like it could turn into something that could be really great, in many ways.

Thanks Shooter  :-)  We're doing every we can to make this a success.   I think no matter what latitude you're at, we would all love an INDOOR location to shoot!

I'll look forward to attending, FT is my main interest but I'd love to learn more about benchrest
and if we can get a local club doing it I would be interested.

Is it alright with the OP if I share this a on a couple other forums? referring them back to you.

Sorry, living around here and dealing with out of state vendors I always get folks asking about weather or something in that area. The best are the folks who want to know if I can go to an interview in NJ.

Rats are everywhere but Alberta Canada, so I am sure you can fimd some to shoot.

Alberta's rat control is pretty fascinating.

No worries I get it, parts of New York are beautiful, and when most folks see "NY" the first thing that probably comes to mind is the City.

NY City has serious Rat Problem, a guy died the other day after being bitten from a Rat, and another article said another Black Death or similar epidemic is looming.

The city has its charms as well. Different strokes for different folks.

NY city does have a serious rat problem, so do many places.

The black death refers to a single pandemic event of bubonic plague that ended in 1353. Plague is easily treatable with antibiotics. Unless the rats have time machines I think we can forget about anyone dying of that.

Leptospirosis, what I believe you are referring to with your rat bite fatality claim is rare but exists. The biggest issue there is that people are bitten by wild animals and for some reason don't go to the dr. I will never understand this. Not only can you get rabies or a whole host of other diseases, but a simple prophylactic course of antibiotics could have made a major difference here.

Before jumping to random conclusions about looming epidemics I would want to see some cold hard facts. Sounds like sensationalism to me.

I never said it did not happen, I said both conditions were treatable.

That article is pure sensationalism. He even admits that antibiotics treat it.

To the OP, that is about 2 hrs for me.
But will have to see how things are shaping up at that time to see if I can make it or not.

As for ratz, I am like 4 or so hours from NYC, but I did, past tense, have a rat problem.
The M-Rod took care of that!
Hollow points are awesome!

Hi everyone,

It's great to see the interest here!  And while the June event will be outdoors I'm beyond excited regarding the facility.  Pinnacle Athletics is like no other sports complex that I've seen.  I have two daughters who've played all sorts of sports (volleyball, lacrosse soccer, etc.) so I have been in a ton of places like this.  None of them really come close to the size or how clean and well organized they are.  This past Sunday they were hosting a huge volleyball tournament AND a college lacrosse game.  The place was packed, but there were great staff at the welcome desk and runners ready to make anything happen.  Really outstanding.  The parking lot is HUGE and they're really working on the outside to get fields ready for more sporting opportunities.

Getting indoor air gunning started at this facility is going to be unprecedented for our sport!

I really can't emphasize this enough.  We have to make this June event a success!  I'll be getting the web site up soon, but in the meantime if anyone wants to joint the mailing list for future communications visit this page:

More to come!

Title: Bench Rest & Field Target competition **Cancelled**
Post by: mcoulter on May 02, 2017, 11:31:24 AM
Unfortunately, the June 2017 event is cancelled  :-(

But we expect to continue to work with Pinnacle Athletic Complex to host more AG events in the future.  I will send a direct email to all who had signed up for updates on this event.
