Title: Moment of truth.....
Post by: jeeperatt1 on April 30, 2011, 12:32:20 AM
Ok, no more farting around!

Give me your pick and why; BAM 28 .25, Benji NP XL .22, or Benji NP .22!

Will be using for medium sized game at night.

Thanks!

The xl will put down any raccoon, I wouldnt feel confident hunting med size game with the regular Trail. Not so sure about the B28, but I'm sure it'll put any small game down

 Nitro piston XL

High power, quiet, can stay cocked forever and it's an all around good gun. The regular benji is kinda weak for bigger furbearers in my opinion and the 28 has a whole list of reasons why it wouldn't suit you well for a first time magnum, not to say it's not an awesome gun but it will have a definitive learning curve along with it.

Your getting pretty close to a discovery with a pump in price, any thought about going to pcp? J

I have no experience with any of those you have selected, but if the B28 is as close to the 350 that it's cloned after it should be a potent killer in .25. Add a Mike Melick lube tune it should be a fairly smooth brute. I do think highly of the 350 and have taken a lot of rabbits with one, in .25 it should be capable of taking coons.

Thats one of my arguments against the 28 , i think your looking at the additional money for a tune before it will shoot as smooth as a nitro piston right from the factory. J

That makes sense. I've gotten out of springers totally, but I feel that the Discovery would fit into place here much better than the others listed. Plus it's easier to carry and easier to shoot accurately.

The extra money is what I'm weighing!  The B28 in a .25 is tempting for sure.  A tune will have to definitely be considered as well.

Although I've read so many reviews where the XL is hold sensitive etc.  Seems like the real advantage might be where the XL can be cocked for long periods of time.

Although if the B28 is a quiet enough cocker it might not matter so much.

I'm having a hard time because I'm so impressed with my spring IZH 513M!  It is extremely accurate and powerful!!!  It just not worthy that it isn't quiet enough to be a night shooter.  Bear trap makes an aweful noise etc.  But as a "springer" it thumps!!

That's what makes me lean torwards the B28!  Nice accuracy and power without the clanky bear trap.
