Title: Crosman AIR 17
Post by: makarov76 on January 05, 2017, 01:07:23 AM
I'm just wondering does anybody out there have one? I remember seeing one
When I was a kid it was black looked like an M16 it shot bb's or pellets,
You pumped it 3 times. Can somebody post some pics tell me more about it
& if they modded it. I'd love to collect one.

I have one someplace. I thought they were single pump guns?

Wish I'd known you wanted one. I scrapped mine out a couple years ago. Wasn't anything to them, mostly plastic including the valve. Not a whole lot that could be done with them. Mostly a novelty to garner sales.
My sister might still have hers, but I doubt it.

makarov76- I did get one last year
I think they are single pump, same as 781 I've read
I'm still trying to get this one shooting
it had laid outside for many years.

Def single pump.  I'll have to dig mine out for some shots.

single pump for sure... but as a little kid i pumped it 3 times...i am positive that made it .308 instead of .556...(blessed young ignorance...).

Sad postscript to story... i moved on to other air rifles and my little brother got his hands on my Air17... last time i saw it it had no buttstock... mag was missing and barrel had been sawed... My little brother and his little "gangsta" friends wanted a sawn off shotgun, so that is what they made... I still hate those kids... as per my brother, i'm still forced to like him...

Just ran some over the chrony...2 FPE. Lol

I was looking at it and wondering what the little switch was on the back and then for the first time I realized you can shoot BBs from it!  Never even noticed the loading trap door on the side.

Andrew... you are making my eyeballs sweat... lots of adventures we shared. it is probably the thing that made me joined the army later on in life... i remember running my finger on the side of the M16 and remembering how weird is not to have that little BB door...

and to be honest with you, i got a M4 177... not the same. My son is 4... its packed away for him in a couple of years...

I was looking at the pics and forgot about the trap door in the butt. I didn't grow up with one so really haven't spent a lot of time with this gun. I bought it many years ago as I was collecting "iconic" and cool looking guns.

I had one as a kid. I love anything M16. One day mine fell from my gun rack and broke the stock smooth off. That was the end of it. I guess I'd buy another just for my collection. It wouldn't get shot like my 880/760 guns. When I was a kid, that was the coolest gun. I did have the M1 carbine that cocks by telescoping the barrel into itself. Wish I still had these.

Thx for the replies & pics, brings back childhood memories. It's been a long time
Since I've seen one (1985-1987) glad to know there's a few still out there.
I wish I had a complete one I would make 3 rifled barrels for it a 17,20,22 cal.
Then I would make a brass pump piston & valve & do all the necessary modds
To turn it into a 7or8 pump gun to shoot between 700&800 fps.

LOL Jay.  Love your enthusiasm. That might be a lot of machining. I'm sure the plastic pump arm wouldn't take 8 pumps.  But yeah it cranks out 500fps like nobody's business!

They had a 4 or 5 shot plastic clip to load the pellets and the magazine was an empty storage compartment.  I think it might have come with a spare pellet clip because I remember keeping it in the "magazine" for fast reloads lol.  You never knew when Black Bart might have a few toadies with him...

Yes it is magazine/clip fed with manual advance. It is actually 4 shots as the middle of the mag has a cutout that is used for single shot feed.

Not a powerhouse but I've collected a bunch of odd/different Airguns.
