Hey all, im pretty new to pcps, first one ill ever have ill be buying this friday and its a gift for a good friend. I wanna make sure its pretty ready to go when i give it to him. What are some recommended mods for these? So far all i know for sure is ldc. Other than that, im hoping the good people of gta can guide me. Id like to get max shot count and nicest trigger i can, with power of mid 20's-low 30s for fpe before i give this one away(i know his type of shooting pretty well lol)
-
I've only had my maximus .22 for a couple of months so take this with a grain of salt. All I've done to mine is add a TKO and a brass trigger. I get low 20's for FPE and I don't think it's very feasable to get much more out of it. I'm not sure what kind of shooting your friend does but I've taken ground squirrels at 50 yards with head shots that still passed through. I do get a good consistent 20 - 25 shots with mine. Hope this helps.

If you are handy you could make one of these.http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=110145.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=110145.0)
I made one for my brother's Disco, it works well and since the Maximus is basically the same rifle you could make something similar for your rifle.

I'm not too sure if an SSG will do much in a maximus. From what I've read the two rifles use two different hammer springs and the maximus is at near coil bind stock with no hammer preload.
-
Ok, no problem.

Could it be done with a lighter spring? I have Mellon power adjuster on order and I think it comes with a lighter spring. This is all new to me, so I apologize if this is a dumb question.
-
A lighter spring that will compress more would probably fit. How well it will function I have no idea. Im a tinkerer but I came to the conclusion that there isn't a whole lot that needs to be done to the maximus. I do have 2 more barrel bands waiting to get put on in the next few days though. We'll see if that does anything productive. I purchased a P12 to satisfy my tinker side though.

So then is this pretty much a gun to just get an ldc for, new teigger, and leave as is then? Thats fine if it is, i just wanted to do any other known mods to it before i give it away

I have a power adjuster on the way, I'll try to post back results when it gets here but it might be a few weeks before I get it. You could make when too for it in case he wants to cut back power for shot count at some point.

From what I've found. Granted it is my first PCP and I have limited knowledge. Extra barrel bands are supposed to help improve accuracy as well. I have some but haven't installed them yet and I have pretty good accuracy. Here's my thread I started awhile ago.

Ill check out the thread in a bit when i get home. Did you just get the barrel bands from crosman?
-
I originally bought 2 from Mellon air but lost one so I bought one off eBay from magnum air power. If you could purchase those and a brass trigger from the same person that would help with shipping. I forgot to mention I did polish the contact locations in the trigger group as well as lube the parts up when I changed the trigger. With any luck ill have the time and appropriate weather to do some 50 yard groups before and after the bands.

I'm looking forward to seeing this. I have a new band from Crosman waiting to go on.

I got barrel band for 2250 when i ordered stuff from Crosman. I haven't got to it yet, need to carve the band on the stock and you can secure it with screw through the stock beside the sling attachment. It will be more secure than with just the screw by the guage.

Unfortunately the whole appropriate weather thing isn't working out. In between "storms" right now and other priorities of life are taking up my time. Hopefully next week if I don't get any overtime at work.
-
I checked today and my maximus 22 with 19.09 grain hunter extremes is averaging 25 fpe over a 15 shot string starting at 1900psi. If you were shooting inside of 40 yards you could get away with 25-30 shots depending on your exact gun.

PM BicycleMan he has had his maximus for a while now and uses it exclusively for squirrel hunting I'm pretty sure all he has needed to do was clean and maybe some minor tweaks

I installed this trigger & 2 screw mod in my Disco. Made trigger SO much better for a reasonable price. It'll fit the Maximus as well. Looks better too!

Pretty sure that's the same one I got as well. Huge difference. Just remember to polish contact surfaces as well while its apart.

Unfortunately due to crappy weather and boredom, I installed the 2 bands and an extended bolt probe last night. I won't be able to do 50 yard comparisons but I still have the pictures and measurement of my 25 and 35 yard shots. I'll post when I can set my target out more than 10 yards.

Does that long probe hinder in loading pellets, i had to switch mine to a short one to make loading much easier. I checked the short one and it still push the pellet past the breech tp hole.

I have the Euro Maximus, then came along the Wildfire...

Great... Time to sign up for overtime.
And the longer probe does take up a bit of room but I use short pellets anyways so it's not a big deal for me. Predators do fit if you angle the head in first.

Wow that wildfire is like a big brother to the maximus

if it has the same trigger as the 1077, I wouldn't waste my money.
