Title: cheap shooting stand
Post by: wolverine on December 12, 2016, 02:48:40 PM
just thought i'd share this...

i shoot from my den window ridding the yard of squirrels, hosps and starlings.

i took a cheap walmart camera tripod and attached a small piece of wood to it.  the tripod is fully adjustable for height. it also has a bubble level on it.  this setup affords me a steady rest while sitting or standing.  it also folds up small and being aluminum, is light enough to transport.

They say "Great Minds Think Alike".

I use the same type tripod occasionally, only with a rubber-lined 'V' from a monopod / walking stick.
Normally I shoot from my dining room table thru my gunport, but in this photo our painting contractor had the room emptied.
The tripod normally holds the camera ready for unusual birds or actions.
I actually caught a short movie of a redtail grabbing a starling body off the corner of my deck.

Nice set up.  I'm not very accurate with my single leg shooting stick, but I think I'd do much better with a tripod.

The rats get in my goose feeder, I too use a camera tri pod for a rest, out my front window.  Thats a sweat shirt on top. Don't know if they'll let me post a pic. I'm new.

Use the same off the "dog" porch for squirrels!  It is just a sandbag rest no attachment to the rifle.
I have a DeadShot Fieldpod for shooting on the back porch or out on the 7 acres we have.

I've got a collection of tripods because every one I find looks like it could be useful for something...

Instead of depending on the 1/4-20 nut to stay put with or without epoxy, have a look at a T-nut from Lowe's or Ace. I have used them before to mount things to camera tripods. One was a spotlight via a T-nut and small piece of plywood. The other was a 15 pound monster camera lens/telescope inside a 6" piece of PVC. (In something hard like that, you'll want to drill little holes for the barbs too, and add some epoxy.)
