This past Saturday we had the 1st Annual Lloyd Sikes Open Invitational Fun Shoot. It was held in a secret location deep in the hills of Western Virginia. I would tell you where, but then I would have to kill you. In attendance was Lloyd SS (of course), Marty2, Kelvin and myself.
I brought my new Rapid Air Weapons HM1000X in .357. I had it zeroed at 50 yards and had shot it some, but had not had the opportunity to really stretch it's legs yet. Marty2 told me of N.U.A.H. and said I should see if I could qualify. Marty2 had a stack of N.U.A.H. targets set up at a lazered 101 yards, so I used the one on the top left to range in on and then settled in and shot at the lower right target for score.
I was doing pretty good until the 5th shot. I must have gotten a touch of buck fever and pulled it. I knew I had blown it before it even got there. It is the high shot off to itself.
Even so, I measured the group to be approximately one inch CTC. This is one awesome air rifle! It comes tuned from the factory for the JSB 81 grain pellet and I was shooting straight from the tin, no sorting.
So, am I in?!? Huh? Huh?
PS: A special thanks goes out to Lloyd's wife for her efforts to make this a most enjoyable event!

You're totally in! ;D Welcome!
....oops! spoke a bit out of turn... sorry all....
-
Nice shooting Ridge Runner! I was going to ask what was N.U.A.H. until I zoomed into the targets. Nice looking rig too. What scope have you got on it now?
-
So is it over 1" C-T-C or under?.... The difference between Sharpshooter and Expert hangs in the balance.... ;)
Welcome to the Club, BTW, nice shooting.... 8)

It would be nice if all the info at the bottom of the page was filled out!!
Need to know group size to determine which Division you should be in

Hey guys,
I measured the group as one inch CTC.
Siraniko,
This is the scope I have mounted on it right now, but I cannot say I am happy with it.

I am probably going to end up with this.

Or more likely this.

Lloyd ss and I where there when Burke checked the target...... it was 1" CTC(as near as we could tell) measured with a steel tape measure. Could it be a thousandth or 2 one way or the other .....yes.
Burke..... nice shooting on your part. Why don't you take another pic of the target with a steel ruler(or similar) by the group and post the pic.
-
OK everybody, here we have the official measurement, at least as official as my tired ,old eyes can get.
Drum roll please.
1.1095 inches.

Good shooting Burke. And actually we were all shooting pretty decent all morning when the air was almost calm. Then the wind picked up and started breaking branches off the trees. But there was that squirrel steel knock-down target that kept taunting us. Kelvin wasn't going to call it a day until he knocked it down twice....in the wind.
I have to thank Burke and Marty for pushing for us all to get together and shoot. I wouldn't have done it myself and sometimes all it takes is a little prodding for something like this to happen. I am glad we did it. My wife insisted on making some sandwiches the night before for us and I told her we wouldn't need them, but of course, we ate all of them.
I pulled out my RWS 54 side lever for the get together. I hadn't shot it in a few years, and I had forgotten how nice it shot. Put a droop compensating scope mount on it the night before and just a Leapers 3-9x32AO I had laying around. Started shooting at 20 yds, then 40, 60, and 80. I couldn't believe it when I checked the 80 yard target and I had a 5 shot group of .840" C to C! But unfortunately, I had taken 6 shots and one of them blew the group to 1.81", and I don't know which shot it was, sigh. And the wind cranked up before I could try 100.
But again, congrats to Burke and his new rifle. And thanks to Kelvin, Marty, and Burke for making a great airgun day.

Thanks Burke for the picture as it shows all of us exactly what the group size was.
I will add you to the N.U.A. H. Club

Lloyd, I wish to sincerely thank you for calling me two years ago.
And to add to that.... I'm glad I met both you guys at the Fun Shoot in KY back in May. Remember the cinder block and the chrony :-X ;D 8)

Ridge Runner,
Congratulations,

Nice shooting Burke and congrats on getting into the club.

Thanks guys!
Marty, that was an amazing experience. It was really amazing that the chrony survived!

Great shooting,Joe

Nice shooting, I plan to give the official try this weekend myself. I previously put in before everything was made official. Now it's time for me to step up! :)
Good shooting, and maybe we can get together soon too. We have some space out in Amelia near the Farmville area, about 40 archers with a lasered 100 and 200 yard long range area, and a 55 yard "short" range.

Casey, Good luck on your official try this weekend. Hope for favorable winds. ;)
Thanks for the shooting invitation. There seem to be more airgunners lurking around than we realize.

Good Luck Casey!
There are quite a few shooters around Virginia, but as we learned with our little fun shoot, the most challenging part is the scheduling.
I myself will do everything I can to attend.
