Title: Pleased with new Daystate Regal XL
Post by: elh0102 on November 19, 2016, 09:13:47 AM
I recently bought a Daystate Regal XL in .22, primarily for informal target/plinking, and squirrel hunting. I had never shot, or even held one before, but it appeared to be a good platform for a hunting rifle. I am pleased to report I have not been disappointed. It handles great, very much like a rimfire rifle, and weighs a bit under 8 pounds with scope. I have a couple of RAW rifles that are more accurate, but they are also much more expensive, weigh 10.5 lbs. and, for me, not at all handy in the woods. The Regal is squirrel-head accurate as far as I trust myself to shoot, which is all you can ask of a hunting air rifle. The slim forend of the Daystate is perfect for resting against the side of a tree, my most common hunting position. In fact, I just dispatched a couple of squirrels this morning that constantly raid our bird feeder. If anyone is considering a rifle for hunting, or just knocking around outside, I recommend it.

Squirrel-popping is a great way to break in the new rifle, Ed- congratulations!

How many different pellets have you tried?  The Regals are known for very good accuracy- if you experiment with different pellets, you might find something it likes even more.    Straightshooters offers a pellet sampler with 18 different pellet types if you don't have a bunch on-hand.

I am sure the love affair will only grow. My .25 Huntsman Regal XL is both a work of art and accurate 40 FPE hunter. Good luck and keep us posted on your success as a pester rifle

Haven't done much testing yet. My .22 RAW shoots the JSB 16 very well, so I tried it first in the Daystate, and it shoots it well too. Tried the 18 and don't see much difference, maybe a slight preference for the 16.

Here it is. I mounted a Leupold 3-9 EFR Compact scope.
