Title: t05 trigger tune
Post by: thekid on April 21, 2011, 12:49:11 AM
I did a little work on the trigger of the 34 .177

After carefully taking everything apart and removing trigger block, I brought out the dremel with polishing rubber tips and polishing compound and  tips , proceeded to polish every contact point and sides of all the trigger pieces except face of the sear which I touched it up with 600 grit wet/dry. I smoothed out the back sides of the sears so they would mesh like butter.Everything gleamed.

On the inside of the trigger block I cleaned it out thoroughly with brake cleaner then folded 600 grit to fit inside and smoothed it out the best I could.

replaced the spring on the middle trigger piece, (little one very strong) with a bic pen spring cut to size. I then made a brew of moly and crosman pelgun oil and coated the parts, reassembled the trigger then the 34.

What an improvement, it is not like it really needed it, I am use to them, but this is the nicest trigger I have ever used, very light and crisp maybe 2 lbs if that, but super smooth.Rob

Great job.  John in PA tuned the trigger on my 350 pretty much the same way and with a different spring.  It is now 1.8lbs.  It helps with accuracy.  Your 34 should be shooting better groups now.

Here is a replacement spring. Just changing it out is like night and day.

Thanks Guys!!!

Well I could not have one RWS with a wicked trigger, So I tuned the other two also.

When i bought these they had way better triggers than the crosmans and hatsans I was use to, now they are completely different, Only goes to show how much the trigger affects groups, after the tune all my shots were to the left by a 1/2 - 3/4 in at 21 yards, I have re-sighted all of them in, what a joy to shoot. One of the best things I could have done to these other than the home tune.Rob

Rob as you have found out a good trigger is one of the keys to good accuracy, I've gotten so use to the Record or CD or a good tuned T05 its hard for me to shoot anything else, and Charile's trigger is an exelent replacement as well, triggers play a big roll in the long range game! as you will discover.

Nice work! I put a little moly in mine and even that helps. I agree the trigger is very important. One reason I like shooting my TX is because of the sweet trigger. I don't feel I could do the groups I do without it.  ;D Dustin

T05 and its clones in the chinese guns is a trigger that can really be bad from the factory, but what you just did can make them excellent.

Two other touches you can make are, take the original factory adjust screw out, and hit that nice round end with some valve lapping compound.  Glides on the contact point like glass when polished properly.

The absolute BEST thing I have ever done, I cannot take credit for.  Just was given the idea.
Really, this mod is better done with a metal trigger blade from a b-25.
Remove the cross pin that sits high, just forward of the factory adjust screw by drilling it out.

Align a drill bit thru the trigger blade sides, or invert it, and drill a hole that lines up/centers directly underneath the pin you just removed, in the floor of the trigger blade.

Find another screw with a tip similar to the factory adjustment screw, and insert thru hole.  you can either tap the hole, or drill it just smaller, then use the screw and some cutting oil and tap using the screw threads by cutting in a small amount, then backing out, adding cutting oil, going back in farther with the screw, etc.......

Sink your new screw in until you reach the point where the top of the pin that you removed WAS.  Adjust in from there.  In will give you less pull distance, and make it feel somewhat lighter.  Lock it down with loctite.

Be warned, this will make the gun unsafe if the first (added) adjustment screw is turned in too far.  Test where no one is around, with the gun pointed in a safe direction.

I had a b-25 with this mod, and the trigger was every bit as good as a Rekord I once owned....it would break just past the safety disengagement, so very little travel, very little effort.  I prefer all triggers like this, even hunters.  Just have to be careful about having your finger on the blade once safety is disengaged.

Once you see it done, very easy mod to do with a drill press and vise.  Took me 45 min.

Hope this helps, and

God bless,

Farmer

I decided to try what vafarmer said he had done to the trigger on the b25, now these triggers are so light and crisp even more so than after original tune.

When you pull the trigger and the Original set screw meets its sear you feel the stop, just a hair of a pull and the ag fires, I would have to guess it is probably only 1 lb of pressure required now, they are unbelievable.
It is through all the members here sharing Ideas and thoughts that give guys like me who cannot have their ags tuned, a chance to tune them ourselves and with great results. Thank you all and thank you GTA.Rob
