Title: .30cal WARP Review - Part II
Post by: ezman604 on October 02, 2016, 09:53:00 PM
If you haven't seen Part I, you can find it here.
http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=114899.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=114899.0)

The first part was an unpacking and an introduction. As well as a fit and finish and initial impressions. This part is where I finally got a chance to sling some lead across the Chrony to see shoot count and power. And finally an accuracy test. So....onward. But before I start, I need to make one correction and add a bit to another item in the first review. I stated that the Predator Polymags would not fit in the WARP magazines. I must have been off my meds that day because I tried them again and guess what, they DO fit the magazines. Sorry for the incorrect info in the initial thread. But the single shot tray works great, even if I didn't HAVE to use it. LOL
I didn't have a chance to shoot a photo of DVC fully dressed for action, so here is some airgun porn.

Poor lighting of this photo does not do this fantastic rig the justice it deserves. More coming soon, when I find some daylight to shoot pics outside.

And I said I bought and installed a forward grip with a built in retractable bi-pod. Not having any prior experience with these, I didn't expect much.
These can be had really cheap and that is what I expected to get.

I have to say I am pleasantly surprised at this item. I absolutely love the multi-purpose design and the bi-pod IS very stable. I used it throughout the preceding tests. Never faltered.

I ran the tests with the only 3 ammos Pyramyd Air carries at the present time in .30cal. They are the JSB Diabolo 44.75gr, Predator Polymag 44.75gr and JSB Diabolo 50.15gr.

I had shot a few rounds already and found at the present power setting, this beast loves the heavier JSB ammo. So, I started my testing with those, to see what kind of shot count it gets. I filled the 480cc bottle to 3100psi, loaded up and started shooting. I could post the entire string but I'll sum it up. The opening salvo started at 718.48fps for 57.5fpe. Okay, not shabby but not what I thought it would be. As I shot a magazine of 7, the numbers rose with each pull of the trigger. One magazine (7 shots), two magazines (14 shots), three magazines (21 shots) and the numbers continued to climb. At the end of the 3rd magazine, the numbers started stabilizing around the 870fps area for approximately 14 more shots. Power peaked at 928fps for 95.92fpe. Now THAT'S what I'm talking about. The numbers slowly started to decline as I shot 2 more magazines. I finished 6 magazines (42 shots) with shot #42 registering 782.02fps for 68fpe. So, this baby has more power shots left on a tank, I am VERY impressed with the shot count this one has. I sent a text to Travis and asked if this thing was regulated, which he answered nope. Wow...just imagine if it was. Oh, and the ending pressure on the gauge after 42 shots was around 1800psi. After telling Travis the numbers, he advised me to turn the power down and let it settle in around 800fps. She will perform WAY better if I do. And I will take his advice and retest this setting at a later time and report on that.
I found the lighter JSB's and Predators were not as consistent in my prior testing. They were not off by much but the horizontal shift of 1/2-1.5" at 45 yards was not ideal for hunting. Travis said by turning the power down to keep the 50.15gr ammo in the 800fps window would also make the lighter rounds perform much better. Yep, I bet he is right. Since I'm planning on using this as a Yote getter, I MAY actually turn the power up until it affects the accuracy of the heavier pellets, turn it back down a tad just to see how hard this thing WILL hit.
And finally, accuracy. I can't say more than pictures will tell. I set my targets out and lasered them at 45 yards. With 2600psi in the tank (where I felt the curve was close to peak) I loaded up and shot the JSB 50.15gr rounds. This is the typical results.

I'll sum up this part of the review by saying again how this airgun is built like a tank, a very light high tech tank. It is very powerful, light and as accurate as anything out there. It's innovative and well thought out and executed. It's an airgun that I look forward to picking up to shoot. Shot count is simply amazing to me, for the power it can generate. I WOULD like to have it a bit quieter and may get that when I turn the power down to get the lighter rounds to sync in. The other thing I would LIKE to have available is an easy access power adjuster. I actually have an idea that MIGHT work as a modification. Will have to get a spare stock to test this. Overall, this is one fine piece of airgun engineering. I will proudly let anyone that asks get behind the trigger of this one!!!
I'll post better photos and some shooting results later when I can find a little breathing room from work. Enjoying what little spare time we have is what it's all about. And you can certainly get the most from your time with this one. I hope you were able to enjoy the review and learn a few things about the WARP.
Till next time....
SAFE & Happy Shooting!!!!
Dave

LOL
The sheet had 20 targets printed on it. I just snapped a photo of just one of them with the dime so you could see it close up. One shot per target. But all hits were about the same. I can snap a picture of the whole sheet next time but believe me, they will pretty much duplicate this one picture. Of course, it also depends on weather condition and the shooter.

Needing some relaxation, I set up to just do some fun paper punching yesterday. Not what you normally use a .30cal for. LOL
But hey, I needed some trigger time.
And yes, I'm still amazed at the performance of the WARP. Set targets out at 45 yards again and spent a little time adjusting the Predator Polymag (44.75gr) to see if I could get them on target better. The 50.15gr JSB's are still a scouch more accurate but the Polymags could cut the 10 ring quite frequently. I still need a bit more shooting time so I can tweak the power and see what happens. I want to see if I can get a flatter curve and dial in the lighter weight pellets. If you can call 44.75gr lighter. LOL
Also still want to turn the power UP to see just what the 50.15gr can punch out as far as power.
More to come!!!
