Thinking about a QB 78 or maybe some other inexpensive rifle since I may not like pcp (looking for suggestions) I do not hunt and only shoot in my 10 meter basement range. My primary shooter is a HW 30 springer that I really enjoy but would like to try a pcp.

At a cost less than your HW30 I got my first PCP and pump. It's not a very good 10 meter basement gun though. 1/4" groups at 30 yards are easy but at 21 lbs/ft it's rather knarley. The Euro version of the Maximus may show promise for you needs.

The Umarex Fusion is a nice co2 in .177, very quiet to use indoors. It's powered by 2 12 gram carts and get about 80 to 100 shots depending on the ambient air temperature and the pellets I use. It's a single shot and not pellet picky. I bought a refurb from Field Supply for $99 plus $3.99 shipping. Walmart occasionally has sales on co2 carts as low as $10 to $12 per 40 count. you can use one cart along with a dummy(empty) cart if you don't want to shoot a lot. Another option is the crosman 2400kt with a tko, I shoot mine indoors all the time. I get about 50 to 60 shots with it with one co2 cart. I have a little over $200 in mine and that includes the rifle, scope, and TKO. The mods are endless on the 2400 if you like to tinker.

Enjoyed the link to the fusion. Listed as both bolt and break barrel.

Disco,Disco, Disco. You won't be sorry.

Discovery for sure, you can mod it for indoor with a TKO. It can be run off of co2 as well. The crosman 2260 is another co2 rifle, it's .22 caliber. Both are a very accurate guns. The Fusion is strictly straight barrel not a break barrel, it's a typo in the FS listing.

Well, the QB 78 is not a PCP rifle, it's a CO2 rifle. If you're talking about a "gas powered" gun, then the QB 78 might be the gun for you. Very reasonably priced, and no support equipment needed. You might also consider a QB 79. With that gun, you would need to use 9 oz. CO2 paintball tanks. These could be filled at local paintball shops for a reasonable price. The 79 also has options to be able to power it from 12 gram powerlets or 88 gram. If you want to go to true PCP (HPA) with the 79, you can get a 3000 psi , 13 ci regulated tank, with 1100 psi output.
If you want to go with a true PCP, and you are willing to spend the money on support (pump, tank, etc.), then the Maximus is the current lowest price. Get the Euro version. The regular version is way more power than you need for basement shooting.

For me, I would go to the Crosman web site, get the 20% discount that are available, order on Friday (free shipping) and get the 12 fpe version of the Maximus in 177 cal (named euro on their site). Lots and lots of shots. can have fun plinking cans outdoors, and not expensive !!
Also lots and lots of modifications if you wish later on down the line.

Hey Ron,
Do you need a "turn-key" gun or will you work on it yourself?
Having a few PCP's & the HW30S; my HW30S is just as accurate as my BSA R-10 in my 12 yard range :D
HW30S - Krale ........$230
BSA R-10 - AGD .........$990
The QB78D can be purchased & converted to HPA for $160 total (DIY), but you have to buy a pump too.
The QB78DHPA can almost match the BSA R-10 at 50 yards.
The Discovery is a great gun too, but has a lower shot count unless mods are done.
Good Luck :D

I have a QB78D in .177 and love it. Mine loves the super cheap Daisy wadcutter pellets. I use it with the 12 gram cartridges mostly, but have used a bulk fill adapter and a paintball remote line and shot it a lot from a bench that way as well.
I see you posted a wanted add in the classifieds for a QB78, airgundepot.com has them for $109 and they are running a 12% discount if you use the code FALL12. http://www.airgundepot.com/beeman-qb78-deluxe-air-rifle.html (ftp://www.airgundepot.com/beeman-qb78-deluxe-air-rifle.html)
That said, they also sell the QB79, which you can add a Ninja regulated bottle and actually use as a PCP with compressed air instead of CO2.
I see several people recommending the Discovery rifle, it is on sale at Cabela's for $207.99. The one I had was pretty loud when I shot it outside, so I'm not sure how well you would enjoy shooting one inside without spending some money for a LDC to quiet it down, so add some more $$$ for that.

thanks i took your advice and ordered a new qb78D 177 from Airgundepot total cost delivered to my door $104.78 .I took advantage of the 12% off sale which is ending today. Thanks Ron.

I just got a Mrodair Airmax Varmint PCP. It's $219 shipped. Comes with a 7 shot magazine, gets 24-25 FPE for 20+ shots. It's pretty accurate at 35 yards. The only drawback I've found so far is that it's a little too loud. I just ordered an after-market LDC from TKO. I really like it so far.

My fav fo 10m inside the house... are not pcp they are ssp... and both rifle and pistol are Daisy... 753/853/953 and 717/747/777

I should be getting a QB in a few days and look forward to working with the platform. Not sure what I will do because I am pretty strapped for cash right now. As it is used I need to figure out what has been done to it first before I jump ahead of myself.
You plan on modding yours right? Or is it going to pretty much stay vanilla?
-
actually stock is my preferance for 10 meter plinking off the bench. not interested in more power just accuracy. and reliability, consistancy.
-
Air guns fascinate me so I am very anxious to start. I was actually thinking scene your are basement shooting you might want less power as well as tuning it for efficiency... Speaking of I really need a Chrony. Oh how I love this sport but its certainly not helping me get my money situation sorted.

I wonder how much a Daisy 888 runs used... hope gamo does not stop keeping parts for the Daisys...

I had the exact title of this thread going through my mind since I discovered air guns a week ago.
I spent a few hours shooing/hand pumping a Maximus and a Trail NP2.
I hated the break barrel. PCP is the only way for me, and the Maximus would be the cheapest option.
As a first time shooter, the Maximus seemed lightweight, accurate, and not bad to pump. But, I hated hand loading each pellet.
The Maximus starter combo that retails for $380 with the gun, pump, target and pellets is a great choice.
But, after doing a ton of research over the last week, asking a ton of questions, managing to annoy some of the veterans with all my repetitive noob questions (sorry guys :) ) and even driving an hour to go hold and hand pump guns myself, I bought the following for my first gun set up:
Marauder Pistol .22 (2 extra 8 pellet clips )
UTG 3-9X32 1" BugBuster Scope, AO, 36-color Mil-dot, Rings
Barska Winbest PCP Hand Pump
Sig Sauer Quad Shooting Gallery Target ( should act as a stop/catch box for pellets too)
Crosman Premier Hollow Point .22 Caliber 14.3gr Airgun Pellets 500ct
For a first set up, it's not cheap at $7xx retail.
But, it's cheaper to buy the right things the first time, instead of being cheap and buying the wrong stuff that you have to replace or upgrade later.
Not to mention, the set up appears to give you a lot for the money: 8 pellet magazine, versatile, dependable, expandable, modifiable, great reputation and high desirability with the veterans, and a lot of fun.
(fingers crossed)
Thanks to everyone on here for your help. :)
I'm very happy with my decision.
Good luck with yours. :)

Evo... great choice! In my opinion if you are going PCP, go multi-shot. :-)

CO2 is a great way to start, good choice!

You would benefit greatly by disassembling the QB, (there are many helps/videos online) cleaning it up, de-burring, opening the hole in the bolt with a Dremel and removing the fiber filter from the valve. Reassemble with a new TP seal and you will have a smooth great shooting rifle with about 100 fps. It's not hard to do and you'll learn all about your rifle....in a good way.
