Title: My thoughts on New Weihrauch HW97K & Hawke SR6 3-12x44
Post by: Weihrauch_HW97 on April 15, 2011, 05:29:54 PM
Formerly Gamo123, but thought Weihrauch_HW97 is more appropriate for a username.

The HW97K showed up yesterday ;D. Beautiful, bigger and heavier than I thought. I know people claimed they are heavy, and they are. A bit thicker in the pistol grip area than I like, but OK when shooting. Very well balanced to shoot, amazingly accurate, once the scope was sighted in. Very nice trigger, smooth cocking and shooting. Very little spring noise.

Scope came today, Hawke SR6 3-12x44. Mounted and sighted it in.

Bought the scope mainly because of the 3-12 range and the SR6 Reticle. I like the reticle very much, kind of like shooting with my compound bow sights. The eye relief is quite poor compared to my Leupold VX-III and older Bausch & Lomb Scopechief. There is very little left -to-right relief, and not that much forward and back either. Once you get the correct position, the optics have good clarity.

I ordered the CenterPoint Optics 1" Medium Height Rail  [CR-CPM1PA25M] mounts. I don't like the scope to be too high so you have to stretch your neck to shoot, but found the cheek rest quite high on the gun and have to press my cheek down hard on the cheek rest to see through the scope. The objective just clears the receiver tube with this mount. Going to order the CenterPoint Optics 1" Height Rail [CPM1PA-25H] which will bring the scope up ¼" which should make things better.

good stuff! i love mine as well. Which cal did you choose? i kept flip flopping between this gun and a TX200, but the TX doesn't come in .20....that was the decision maker for me. .20 is my favorite cal around...enjoy, i sure do.....happy camper Bart

Weihrauch_HW97,

Nice looking gun and scope!  Well, I do have a Weihrauch/Hawke setup myself so I am a bit bias.  We need a range report now on your new rifle...

Thanks for all of the comments Guys.

It's a .177 CAL.

Shoots very nice. Getting about ¼" at 20 yards from a rest with JSB Diaolo Exact 8.4gr crony @ 860 fps. :o

Waiting for the high mounts to come in next week. Should be nicer to shoot.

Like I said, the scope is clear but very fussy on eye relief.

;D Already planning on making a new stock out of Bird's Eye Maple. Have the wood. ;D

Guy's they are beautiful Rifles! That's my next springer purchase actually as soon as I sell the New HW 85 I just bought a couple months ago as I just haven't bonded with it.I really Love the Trigger and accuracy of the 85 ,,but the feel isn't right for me,so the 97K is next. I would be very proud of those guns as they're all just exquisite.

Thanks,

Troy
