Title: PCP seals
Post by: DEAN on September 09, 2016, 01:41:45 PM
will PCP seals go bad from sitting w/o air in them, bought 2 pistols(Mountain Air 2250) that hadn't been shot in 4-5 yrs and both were completely m/t of air.. when I cock them and try to pump with hand pump one just plain leaks and the other will get about 20 pumps in and start leaking all the air out..any way to rehab the seals w.o replacing them or better to just have them replaced..?

If it was my 2250 and it had been sitting for 4 - 5 years I would replace ALL the seals.

Basically fix it right the 1st time so not to have trouble again

Fill from a tank the seal might need 500 psi to set. Pumping an empty gun might be too slow. If you have bulk CO2 you could start with that.
Try a faster charge before you rip it apart.

O-rings certainly can last many years, tho because the composition / material differs some are better than others.
Agree on trying a QUICK fill first ... also make sure action is cocked so you know poppet valve is closed.

Don't have anyway to do a quick fill and no one around me within probably 40-50 miles even shoots PCP`s that I know of..
Ive got them boxed up ready to send back to Roy and found out you supposedly cant sh. air pistols via Post Office and the closets Fed-Ex or UPS store/hub is 40 miles away..
I do have a gun dealer who would probably sh. them via UPS for me..

No air in it ... Do it all the time via USPS.
No need to claim or state your shipping an air gun either.
Empty of air its no diffenrt than sending a box of metal parts. * heck, dismantle it some before packaging up so it is just parts.
