I know most air rifles don't use spring-loaded box magazines for pellets since the spring will deform the pellet skirts.
I decided to try anyways with a double stack 3D printed test magazine.
Here's the results after leaving the pellets under tension for around 8 hours. The spring I used had a spring rate of 0.76 lb/in. The pellets are .22 Crosman brand I bought some time ago. I chose them because I read that Crosman uses a special hardened lead alloy for their pellets.
As far as I can tell, the only pellet with significant deformation was the one at the very top in contact with the ramp.
The magazine will not feed since I made the taper leading to the "mouth" too short.

Here are pictures of the box in use.

That's interesting. What rifle is it for?

It's not for any particular rifle. It was a test to see if it was possible to make a spring-loaded box magazine that won't damage the pellets.

Gotcha. I'll quit hurting my head trying to figure it out. ;D Proof of concept, not prototype.
