Title: Rat Overkill (Extremely Graphic)
Post by: floridaboy on September 07, 2016, 01:19:19 PM
I usually pest rats with my 1322, but after one got away last week, I decided to step up my game. I set up my 25cal Sumatra carbine 3 clicks from the lowest setting and loaded it with Crow Magnum 26 grain hollow points. I have a bait station up in a palm tree, just under the power lines that the rats use for a highway. I hunt  them at night and the bait station is lit up by my front porch light so it usually takes about an hour or so before a rat will get the nerve to come out into the light and go after the peanut butter and bacon. In the end, they cannot resist. I was shocked when I saw how devasting those pellets are, especially on the low setting of the Sumatra. In the one shot, you can see the wound channel going through the length of his body.

Good shooting! And rule 1, there is no overkill when i come to pests. I have used my condor when it was set at 90+ fpe and slugs. I have her set at 30 fpe now and use hunter extremes which blow big holes in rats. Call it being humane. Dont want animals to suffer. Whos down for some 50 cal p dawg action!

Good shooting!  I love overkill pics :)  Yep, a Crow Magnum HP pellet will rip these rodents up especially in .25cal like yours.

My Diana 350 .22 is pretty accurate with the Crow Magnum 18.2gr out to 30yds.  I have used it to take a couple of squirrels with vitals shots when I used to shoot with iron sights, and they always dropped on impact and never moved.  I 'd pick them up and there were soaked on the other side where they had bled out.  Big entry and exit wounds with the CM's!

Overkill?  They're still recognizable as rats.  Good shooting and don't stop!

Ya think my 45-70 Uberti Remingtoin Rolling Block might be a little overkill?

Just kidding. Couldn't do it anyway, as I only have an acre. I'd have the Police escorting me to my new home very quickly.

Nice shot on the nasty pest.  I have also hit a few with .25 cal Crow Magnums running at about 940 FPS. It really opens them up nicely. I would even say they hit harder than polymags and are pretty accurate out of my gun.

Next time I go out for some, I am thinking....... .30 cal  :D

Keep hitting them.
