Title: Fill Hose Leak
Post by: fsa46 on August 31, 2016, 12:31:57 PM
The fill hose quick disconnect for my Great White is leaking and I assume I need a new O-ring. However, I tried to remove the fitting to access the O-ring and it's so tight I'm afraid I'm going to break something.

Any tips on backing this off and changing the O-ring without damaging the fitting ?

Frank,

If your issue is getting the female foster off of the male foster, the following won't help.  ;)

If the issue is you can't get the female foster off the hose to replace the o-ring, you don't have to.  You can remove the existing o-ring with a pick and seat the new o-ring with an allen wrench/pic.  The o-ring should be size 010, which is the same as a 25 cal Mrod breech o-ring.   I just did this to both ends of my hose on my guppy.

Thanks John. I finally got it off and realize I didn't have to remove it.

I went down to Ace Hardware and picked up 10 of those O-rings. I removed the old ones and they looked alright but replaced them anyway. Sure hope that was the problem and it isn't something else.

One more thing. Do you know if they make a male, Foster quick disconnect plug to go in the end of the fill hose ? It would be  a lot easier checking for leaks in the hose by putting a plug in the other end rather than hooking it up to the gun, especially if the gun is already at 3000 psi.

What size were the o rings you got at Ace? Unfortunately, there are no more Ace or True Value Hardware stores around here, just the big box hardware stores. Its a pity all the Mom and Pop store have been shut down by the hugh retailers.

I got the size 010 that FuzzyGrub recommended. ACE had them identified that way so it was easy. I picked up a dozen. Unfortunately it wasn't the O-ring after all but the fitting.

Sure easier to change the o ring than the fitting, cheaper too. Do the Foster fittings all a standard thread size? Had not thought about that. I just wondered if possibly there was a "standard" part number as with most o rings you buy. The most convenient option I have unfortunately is Home Depot but their web site does not show a 010 o ring, may have them but opening the small packs measuring them is frounded upon. There is a listing for the 010 o rings on Amazon.com, so probably go that way. I measured the current one, it was very close to the measurements on Amazon, plus prime shipping will deliver it tomorrow and I won't have to waste $10 of gas running around town hunting them... and if its not the correct one, amazon has a killer return policy.
Thanks
