Title: Marauder advice please
Post by: bmoney on August 14, 2016, 02:26:38 PM
Some of you may have known I picked up a .22 Mrod refurb, great air rifle.  It shoots pretty darn hard in the stock configuration.  It likes the heavier pellets when it is above 2100 psi, seems to do well with Baracuda's and Beeman Kodiaks both in 21grn.  But the rifle really shines from 2,000psi to 1100psi with H&N FTT 5.54 head size (I have some 5.55 on the way to try).  Would I be correct in lowering the velocity to get it to shoot the FTT better at higher PSI?  It shoots them ok from 2100-2800psi but not like it does 2K down to 1100K.  I have a Chrono I can borrow from my buddy.  These are the consistent 5 shot groups I am getting with FTT 5.54's below 2,000psi.  I don't really care about energy as I got this rifle to punch paper in the backyard at 25 yards. Thanks for your time.

If its strictly a paper puncher you might consider getting a regulator and having it set to 1200 psi if its giving the performance you want at that pressure. You would get a huge shot count increase by setting it up that way. If you are not wanting to get a regulator then I would tune it for the lower fill its working best at.

Yup, get an Aidrus regulator and set it to 1100-1200 psi. It'll be great!
