Title: First go at 100yds with my Flex .25
Post by: BigTinBoat on August 10, 2016, 08:54:14 PM
Well my "range" behind my house has been 50yds until this week. They have been talking about building 20 house back behind me for the past 10 years.
Well this week they started clearing it out.
Bad news - won't be able to shoot 50 yds anymore once they are done
Good news - I lasered the "field" at 180yds.
Decided to put out at target at a 100yds (according to my Simmon laser rangefinder) and give the Flex a go.

Went back in a got my new Taipan Mutant
First group was really nice (would have qualified for Sharpshooter if centered)

Shot a 2nd group a mildot dot lower and put 4 of 5 in the 4moa (not sure how that 5th shot wound up so low)

Looks like the Flex missed Sharpshooter by .02"

Also - In order to get the holdover I needed I had my scope on Flex (8-32x56) sent on 8 power.
The Mutant scope (6-24x44) was set on 12 power
All pellets straight from the tin.

Good group. Get a few more targets in while you can.

Nicely done!

It's always that 5th shot that gets you.  I'm thinking about just shooting two "first" shots so there won't be a "fifth"  ;D.

Thanks - thing is it might have been the 1st shot. With the scopes at 8x and 12x I had no idea where any of the shots were hitting till I walked to the target.

Off to a good start, to bad you are loosing your shooting space. I know how hard it is to see the target at 100 yards on 12x, now I think maybe I should have got a scope with a little higher power.

Great grouping at the 8X scope setting, now crank up that scope to high power and rezero at 100 yards and show us some incredible groups.

Good Shooting!!! 8)

It will be easier to see your hits if you use the all white targets with just the lines.
What scope are you using?
The higher power on the scope the better, I use a 6-24X56 Optisan Viper @ 24 power

Jim,
Thanks!

Wouldn't matter what color target was no way to see any hits at 100 with my eyes on anything ess then about 16-20x. lol

I have an 8-32x56 SWAT scope on the gun. It was sighted at 50yds so no way for me to got 100 yd poa on the reticle at 32x. Since I had no way to check and see if the numbers on the magnification wheel are close to what they say (to use the Strelok pic) I figured it would be most accurate at 32 and 8 (the ends of scale). So I tried 8. If I get a chance to shot back there again at 100 I am going to re-zero at 100 yds so that I can use 32x. LAst night when they stopped working they had a bunch of trees laying across the back at 75 yds. No way for me to set up a target and shoot beyond that.

I hope you get a chance to try again!! Your groups are good but I'm betting you will do better with the power of your scope cranked up!

With my scope at 12 power I was using 3.5 mildots, not enough mildots on scope to use 24 power.

So I had to sight in again at 24 power for 100yds. Kind of a pain but but not really that bad and it was worth it.

Even at 24 power it was much easier to see the hits on the white target as compared to the black.

Good Luck! 8)

I've got mine zeroed at 10 and (I think) 40 yards.  I can't remember how many mil dots I have to work with but the top of the thick post where the bottom mil dots end is my mark for 100 yards with the scope at x14.

Using the color printed targets I can usually spot the shots.
