Title: hunter supply .25 FN
Post by: shorty on August 04, 2016, 07:32:22 PM
The hunters supply cast .25's came in today. No time to shoot but they look neat. The measure out to .251" and fit the magazine.

I will try to do some accuracy and power testing in the next few days

Ok.

While my 8 year old son is bothering the heck out of me to modify his nerf gun I was able to get 16 shots in at 10 yards.

Terrible....... 1"/1.5" ctc.

Although It could have been the speed because I had no time to get the chrony out and jack up the power. This was only at 45/50 fpe "guesstimate".

The last very bit of push on the bolt to get the slugs in felt weird like a hard snap push.

Nice that you wont have to single load them . The .25 marauder barrel is chocked isn't it ? I don't think slugs shoot very well in chocked barrels .

So did you get the nerf up to 12fpe  or what?  ;)

.251 should be ok in the choke. They .251 from top to bottom? JSB I measured are .250 head.

The base is at .251"

That choked barrel might be doing it. I have a feeling these will like a little more speed. I should be able to push them somewhere around 875fps/900fps. Man my wife is going to kill me when she sees all the holes in the fence. 8)

That first test was under 700 fps.

"dang" nerf guns. I guess I should be happy my son likes to tear things up like me. He's asking me to upgrade the spring in it for more power. And yes, both of us are out at the work bench modifying it.

The last time we did this we popped in those nerf "things" into a paint ball gun. They fit.... :D. Now that thing shoots hard. He just doesn't like the single load. Go fish... ;D

I was considering those for experimenting with, but the pics at midway did not inspire  much confidence... very wrinkled and not very sharp edges...

I was going to use my case trimmer to try and make them into hollow base, hollow point and both hollow base/point with differing depths...

also to just get the weight down a more stock Mrod friendly weight...

I don't know if they use a different mold but the hollow points come looking much better in quality than the flat nose. And they do seem to prefer a higher speed. I believe also that they are bh 10.

Both those HP and FN pellets look like they come from the RCBS .25 ACP RN bullet, the 57902.... I have tried the original 52 gr. RN and a 46 gr. HP version, both as cast, and sized to 0.250", and they were terrible....

(http://i378.photobucket.com/albums/oo221/rsterne/Bullet%20Casting/IMG_3790_zps6b037050.jpg) (http://s378.photobucket.com/user/rsterne/media/Bullet%20Casting/IMG_3790_zps6b037050.jpg.html)

The best I could get was about 2.5" groups at 35 yards, and I tried anywhere from 800-950 fps.... That was in both an early LW barrel (I think smaller than the current ones), and a .25 ACP barrel from TJ's (0.250" groove)....

Yup,
These HS 25FN don't work well. Ran them up to 850 fps and still scatter shot.

I even went through the trouble making a sizing die to bring them down to .249" (further smaller) of what has already been done. Still no good.

The good news:
MK2's came in. Darn those pellets. One holers....... ;D ;D ;D

I am willing to try out one more type of 50 grain "or so" slug.

If anyone knows of a 50 grain "or so" slug that puts them in the same hole at 25 yards (out of a 25 "stock"-marauder barrel) , I'll buy and try them out. Or if I hear of someone with those results.

I think I am done with the slugs until then.

I even went through the trouble making a sizing die to bring them down to .249" (opposite) of what has already been done. Still no good.

If the nose fits tight enough you could try chopping the whole tail end off for about a 40gr experiment.. ;)

No more experiments with them. It took 30 to 40 minutes just to make a sizing die. Waste of time.

I'll wait for someone else to come up with something. Projectiles and barrels are not my thing. Too much fine detail for me.

understandable... me I can not help myself... I find it fascinating and fun to experiment with... it is amazing what small changes can sometimes accomplish...

Heck I almost got Daisy .22 pointed pellets to work by making them look more like the Crosman pointed.. ;)

You know K.O.,

You called me Richard Cranium a few weeks ago. I still get a laugh about that. :D

I haven't heard that saying since I was a kid.LMBO

Try the Eun Jin pellets, they do great in a stock marauder. I can hit paint balls at 60yds all day long with them. More shooting and less tweeking for me.

Agree, the 43gr EunJin are shooters,......I've tried those Hunter Supplys bullets in a bunch of different .25s, never, ever got decent results.

I wanted to say in the beginning of this post that HS makes horrible bullets.  Only a few post in the past of DECENT luck with them.  But at least you saw for yourself.

Might look into rat snipers. I know Bullfrog killed a BIG hog 65yds away with the 49gr.  I'm thinking about ordering some to try them out. The 49gr has to be single loaded though. But he has 37gr that fit the clip.

Mr. Hollow point has 43/50/55gr also that he shot out of a stock Mrod at a measly 720fps with the 43gr and they did 1 inch groups at 70yds. Or so he says.

I have shot both the 45gr rat sniper pellets and Mr. Hollowpoints 55gr slugs, they are far more accurate than the HS stuff is. Both will hold a 1 inch group over 50yds. I use a single shot tray to shoot them. I am getting the same results from my stock marauder as Bob is with his marauder with the 43gr slugs.  Both are worth getting. Mike and Bob are great guys to deal with, just keep in mind when ordering, these guys have day jobs and it may take a while to fill your order. Most of the time they are pretty quick in filling and shipping orders.

Tried those looked like I shot them with a slingshot, tried them in 4 different guns, fishing weights would do better. David
