My FWB was tuned to my specs by Rocker, and he did a wonderful job. The other day I got to thinking to myself that I would like a little less jumping in the rifle. So I called my friend and asked what he would do? He said he put in 2 washers and I should take one out, and see. I did and she did mych better. :) Then I started thinking (which is a bad thing when tools are involved). I happen to have an extra spring, I called my friend and told him about the extra spring. He told me how to cut off a coil, heat it up and compress the spring, then grind it. After I heated the metal, I thought utto I have to quench this thing. I happened to have a can of Castor Oil, so guess what I used. :) Now all I have to do is go home polish both ends with my dremel (because the factory end needs polishing to). Apply some tar and it will be ready for testing. If I do not like it I can always go back to the original spring, because I am not known for great decisions. LOL

I think you are going to love it. Get it down to about 10 FPE and lose the jump and the hump( cocking it).

If it gets that low or the accuracy declines the original spring will go back in.

Yea, that old coot is my friend. :) He told me what to do and how to do it. :)
I bought the spring compressor here at GTA. I lost the piece of wood that goes on the big bolt,, but I have another piece of wood and a small steel plate I use. :)

Think he has the newer model FWB Sport. Not the 124.

Thank you, I have decided it is time for me to start working on guns. Might as well start with a nice one. :)

Which sight/scope are you using?

Hi all,
Does anyone have any links explaining what the FWB Sport is? I've tried researching but not finding any good explanations so far. I was checking the Flying Dragon website and Mike has posted he will be getting some in. Why is there excitement about it because I saw a couple mentions of the rifle recently?
I don't mean to take away from Jesse's post at all.
Thank you,
Taso

It is an extremely expensive European Sportster, mid weight, mid power, extremely nice build quality. There is some debate whether it is a one hole gun or not. But it is really really nice. Perhaps the best light hunting .177 rifle there is...
Plus it is the only non PCP that Feinwerkbau makes. It is a relatively new model based on old aesthetics. They are one of the great names of air gunning.

Yogi,
Thank you. Now it makes more sense.

I've been eyeballing one of those. But I just haven't heard much about them from any of the forum members. The styling is off the charts, but it's pretty pricey for me to take the plunge blindly so to speak.

I must say the FWB spring noise was horrible. I sent her off for a tune and the spring guide was made to fit the spring. It is a wonderful gun now, but I am trying to make it better. I now have a Vortex Crosfire II scope on her which I plan on changing when my finances get right. :( Here is a review I did when I first got her.

Best made plans of mice & men. :( Got the spring home went to install her and saw she was still 2 coils longer than the original. Needless to say she would not cock. I pulled out my dremel, cut 3 coils and installed the new spring. (I wll not go into the complications but thank you David for your help). She is now shooting 795-805 and not any smoother at all. I am going to wait for the spring to break in before I make my decision to keep her or not. She has gone from 13.35 FPE to 12 FPE. She went to just the speed I want and I hope she settles down, but if not I still have the original spring.

I'm bummed to hear how much effort you're having to put into this rifle. It's a good looking rifle; but at the price they are asking for them (TX territory) I'd pass personally. This gun was on my short list. Now it's off the list altogether. Thank you for the informative, and frank review.

:) I sold my TX200 & HW97K. I just did this to learn. What better rifle to learn on than one you spent $900 on even though they are now $800. :)

Hey Jesse, does your Sporter have much barrel droop? Which mount did you go with? I am going to be pulling mine out of the closet and see if I can get it in FT shape.
Thanks

Yes it did, I used BLK adjustable scope mounts. Can keep the gun mostly optically centered with the mounts and slight adjustments with the turrerts. :) I love BLK mounts, but they cost a little bit more.

Thanks Jesse

I had it shooting 800 FPS which I liked, but as the spring is breaking in it is 775 FPS. Follow through is great at 800 FPS. The FWB is a great platform and much lighter than the TX200, HW97K, and possibly the R11. Atleast if feels that way, and accuracy is just as good as the first two. I am going to add a couple of washers to get her back to 800 FPS which is 12 FPE. If that doesn't work I will put the original spring back in and be happy with 835 FPS. :) This was an extra spring for learning and it has done it's job. :)

Booger,
I have bought three of the FWB's to wrench on, and if I remember correctly I ended up liking the ARH monolith spring that is on close out at Macarri, which fit very well on the stock guide and metal washer, with an internal metal spacer on the rear to cock in to the piston from ARH which also fit the guide well, topped off with a VAC30 power seal, mine shoot around 800 fps with 7.3 RS, and honestly the smoothest action I have yet. I would expect more out of the platform, but I can't get the rifles balanced at higher FPS, just to jumpy to stay on target. Maybe some of the pro's with in house machinery could punch slightly more.
Just some thoughts,
Jason W Garvin
