1972 Benjamin 342 22cal was sitting in the pawnshop today.
I asked store owner how much and I walked out with gun for $60
No real marks on gun, has some fading on end of gun stock.
I put a few shoots through it and 4th/5th shot hit bullseye at 30ish yards. Only had jsb heavies in 22 cal left to try the gun with.
How did I do?
-
Walnut stock.
-
That is a nice deal!!
Pumper's like heavy pellets.
Bryan
-
It did shoot the heavies better that I thought it would.
I'm real impressed that it still shoots, but other than some finish fade on stock, it seems this gun might have been put up or kept in the house for most it's life.
Seems I have a tree rat controller again. My pcp's are to much to shoot where I live after mod's.
Owner started mowing block behind my house and now a lot of people walk it. I still need to be carefull tho.
-
Great score!! Better than what I got mine for. Can't wait to see some pics.
-
Another vote for a great score. $60 for a classic like that that still shoots is a home run in my book. Congrats.
-
Congratulations!
With shipping I've got about $100 in my 342.It's as ugly as sin but shoots great and holds air. Very little original finish remains.Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum Domes do the best of the several pellets tried so far.
-
$60!?! Fully functional? You lucky dog!
-
Sorry I'm late with getting back.
I used some tung oil on the stock and the faded parts look a lot better.
If I can I'll throw up a few pics.
This has become my go to yard gun as my pcp's are way to much power for shooting in town.
Other than a little tung oil, I have done nothing to this gun and it's great.
I was pretty lucky.
-
that's awesome. congrats on a great deal on a great rifle.
-
Great deal. Congratulations on a nice purchase.
-
Pics would be awesome
-
Pics are still hard to put up on this forum.
I used my avatar and put a pic of gun on it.
-
Others have suggested to use photobucket when I first got started. It all seemed well and good. Until, they started loading it with pops up, countless amount of pop ups. Ever page a pop up. I downloaded the app and it's currently working better. So in due time they will make it infuriating to use with uncontrollable amount of pop ups. Thanks photobucket for allowing me to HATE sharing my moments with family, friends, and GTA brothers!!
From what I can see in your upside down pic. She looks good!! A big steal for 60 bucks
-
I love my Tootsie Roll 342!!! I got a super deal too!!! $125 shipped, not a scratch on her and at least
95% of the bluing in tacked.
Great find Brother Man!!
-
Congrats on the bargain 342.
I been looking at them for more than double that price!
:o
Shoot me a PM if you would still like to throw some photos on here. Worst case you email them to me and I can post them for you.
-
Shoots jsb jumbo heavy 18.13gr at 520fps 8 pumps.
May take you up on the pic thing.

Here ya go jaraxle1zx
I used the "Attachments and other options" at the bottom of the "Reply" page. They will be tiny "thumbnail" but if you click on each one you will see them at the size I made them once resized.
You got a nice one, with that little refinishing and that stock looks NICE!
-
Sweet, looks good!
-
Thx for helping with pics.
-
Any way to put a scope on this?
the gun is 44years old so I'm not drilling holes or doing any permanent mods.
If not I'm good with the way it is as its a dead on shooter and it's way better than I thought a gun this old could be. It's just my eyes are not as good as the gun.
-
Yeah you cant but that @ wally world lol SWEET !!!

You can also try a set of Crosman B272 mounts, 15 bucks from Academy. Just don't try to torque them down to tight.

Will level if I push on it in mid.
Hasn't troubled me yet but one day I'll check in to that.
Not sure why my phone is putting pics backwards on here.
Thx for suggestions for scope mounts.
-
Haven't tried the Crosman mounts yet, but ditto the Mac 1 mount above. Though, at $50, Mac1 is pricey for me.
-
I got some mounts for sale if you would like. Both the 4 piece Crosman mount and the 2 piece Sheridan mount.

+1
You can find cheaper mounts, but the Mac-1 will not cause barrel separation & is rock solid. I have them on my two 342s & my Blue & Silver Streaks. It can also be used as a breech or a scout mount depending on your scope & preference.
-
nice old benji! congrats!
-
Kinda messed up.
I have these pellets, I've not been able to shoot them out of any gun and hit a target.
Rabbit hunter or bunny magnums, I forget what it's called but I put one in the Benjamin and nothing, didn't even shoot.
So I take cleaning rod and push pellet back out and put in a jsb.
Gun shoots jsb but sounds like it lost power.
I'm pretty deep in the darkside right now and don't plan on fixing this any time soon.
I could use some 25jsb jumbos and 30jsb 44gr (hint hint).
Hit me a pm/email
Jason

Oh man! I just bought a Blue Streak but I have been wanting a 342 project...
PM inbound...
She's gonna kill me.
-
yep. you're a dead man, Scott. you did write me into your will, like I asked you to, didn't you??
-
I have had a "342 wanted" classified here for a while, I hope it happens.
She'll get over it... if the deal goes through that is.
I got last quarters profit sharing check coming any day so it won't noticed until it shows up at the door.
Actually she is very understanding to my addictions. Heck I got 6 motorcycles in various stages of repair. ;)
-
Remember how someone pointed out that the pump stock sat a lil funny?
That arm is a little bit bent also.
Really could use the pellets over a sale.
And remember the dern rabbit magnum pellets? They group at a foot 25 yards and seems to destroy old Benjamin's?
I can throw in a few tins of these to sweeten the deal. Lol
-
Sorry couldn't help myself from making that joke. If it wasn't for shipping cost I would give the pellets away.

Thanks to You!!!
Ok.. I'm done for a while... 3 guns in 3 weeks.
Now for all the parts. ;) ::) ;D
-
Congrats Scott. I knew one would show up. I saw a couple here and there, but again asking way to much.

Yep sure did... you did see the clause that says you (or any other Admin) can never edit my avatar... right?
