Title: Benjamin XL 1500 Ammo
Post by: High Noon on August 05, 2010, 06:41:29 PM
I just received my Benjamin XL 1500 .177.  What ammo(s) is working best?  weights? I picked up the Crosman Premier Ultra Mags to start.  Do the hollow points get unstable due to the indention?

New to Performance Air Rifles.  I will be added the GRT Trigger also.

Thanks

I've graduated from a Crosman 2100 to this, so my knowledge of performance is none.  So,Please forgive my unstable comment.  Most of my shooting will probably be target practice and target competition with a buddy for bragging rights.  So I'm just looking for info on what you guys have found to be accurate/consistant pellets for this rifle.  Any and all information would be welcomed.

LOL I agree with David High Noon it's alot of AG for target's. An mine like his shot the CPHP's pretty good an alot of other pellet's in the 7.8 to 8.3 range O.K.,but the 10.5 ultra's seemed a little more stable in mine. Maybe try an get an assortment pack of heavy's in that range too see what your's like's the most. An Hey even if your bud win's at target's you sure have him beat on crushing power!?!

I also bought this rifle for mostly target/plinking, but I wanted the power too.  This will be my only airgun for awhile and I couldnt resist  ;D.

So far The crosman premier ultra mags have been the most accurate for me.  I am however having a pretty bad smoke in the barrel problem so who knows what will be the most accurate when I get her fixed.

enjoy that 1500  ;D

Try the Skenco "Ultra Shock" 10.3 gr, they shoot fantastic out of my Gamo compared to the crosmans

Today I got a chance to put a few through the chamber.  At 10 and 15yds.  Crosman Ultra Mags and the Hollow points.  These two pellets fit differently in the chamber the Ultra fit real snug from start to skirt.  The hollow points fit snug only at the skirt. I have to use a nice push to get the Ultra's into the chamber. I thought through reading that the ultra mags would work best, But right now the Hollow points are grouping best for me.  I will continue to test other pellets.

Got the chance to make a homemade rifle rest out of a couple tripods that i have.  Today's surprise?  The Crosman Ultra Mags grouped the size of a quarter at 15yds.  The Hollow points disappointed today.  I could have guessed this wasn't going to be simple process.  I've created my list of Beeman, H&N, JSB and RWS pellets that I will try.

I wouldn't be to worried about groups for a little while, between the rifle bracking in and you learning about it, it's gonna take a bit of time, i would just have fun shooting for a week or so and than get serious in testing pellets and man  ;D

I just got my XL1500 and I bought all H&N Pellets. I've been putting the gun through the paces and have not cleaned at all. I just ran out of pellets and here is what I found as far as accuracy with my gun. I shot 500 Barracuda Match 10.65g, 500 Crow Magnum 8.8g, 200 Barracuda Hunters 10.34g, and 200 Barracuda Power 10.19g.  Be sure to tighten and loctite your fore grip and scope screws (my biggest mistake early during the break in period).  My gun shoots the Crow Magnums at short and medium ranges and the Barracuda Power at long ranges VERY, VERY accurately.  I found all the pellets I bought consistant and accurate.  The Match and Hunter pellets fit really tight and lost accuracy first most likely due to being sensitive to being shot in a dirty gun.The Power pellets seem like a better long range pellet than the match.  The Power pellets stayed zeroed WAY out.  Mine was from 20 to 75-80 yards.  I was shooting 1 mil dot at 100 yards with the Power. I found this amazing. The Crow magnum pellets are the last I shot, they shot great and they NEVER lost accuracy. I mean dime size groups at 10 and 20 yards even after 1400 pellets.  So, for my gun, I think the Crow Magnums were the best followed by the Barracuda Power, followed by the Match, followed by the Hunters.  I'll be buying Crow Magnums and Barracuda Powers again and maybe I'll try the longer H&N Match pellet just because H&N has great pellets.  I think the Barracuda Hunter's are too erratic/sensitive in my gun I won't buy them again.  I'm also going to try the CPUM and Predators.  After I clean my gun ;)

as a side note:  Of the pellets I've tried so far they rank in loudness from quietest to loudest Hunter,Match,Power, Crow magnum.  Oh and my gun is CREEPY quiet, it doesn't even sound like an air gun to me
