Action Pistol Casual Match
In the “Post 5M Air Pistol Match #1 Yr. 8 Scores Here” thread, http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=108000.0, (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=108000.0,) jayclimber (Jason) posted an entry shot with his S&W M&P 40. That entry caused me to think about a casual match designed specifically for BB or pellet action pistols like the S&W M&P 40. I have a couple and I believe that many of you may have one or more. I know they are fun for plinking.
Here is what I have come up with for suggested rules. Please feel free to offer suggestions for improvements or changes. I’m sure we will need to do some tweaking.
Use your favorite target for the 5 Meter Air Pistol Match, http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=36.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=36.0)
Number the bulls on the target from 1 to 5. Six shots will be fired at each bull in accordance with the following table for a total of 30 shots and a maximum score of 300 points.
Bull # Distance Stance # of Shots Other
1 3 yards 2 handed 6
2 5 yards 2 handed 6 DA
3 5 yards 2 handed 6 SA
4 5 yards 1 handed 6 Strong hand
5 3 yards 1 handed 6 Weak hand
DA = Double Action
SA = Single Action
Strong hand = dominate hand. For example, I’m right handed so my strong hand is right hand.
Weak hand = other hand
Bulls # 2 and #3 will depend on your pistol. If your pistol does not offer both modes, then shoot both bulls as allowed by your pistol.
The following is copied from the rules for the 5 Meter Air Pistol Match, with some slight modifications (any typos are my fault):
Shots are scored according to the highest value of the target scoring zone or ring that is touched by a circle centered over the shot with a diameter equal to your pellet caliber. A scoring gauge or the head of a wadcutter pellet comes in handy for this (the pellet skirt may be too large). If any part of a scoring ring (demarcation line between the scoring zones) is touched by the circle, including even the outside edge of the scoring ring line, the shot is scored the higher value of the two scoring zones
Any sighting device is fine.
Standing unsupported, one or two hand only, no rests of any kind. Seated is permitted only if you are unable to stand.
Please indicate the match name, match number and the date when the match was shot on the target sheet.
Please post the following information for your entry. A scan of your target sheet and a picture of your pistol is optional.
Name
Pistol
Sights
Caliber and Pellet or BB
Score
Remember, the most important rule is to have fun!!!!!!!
Since this is a casual match, let’s make it one entry per pistol. You can enter targets for as many different pistols as wish.
If it is okay with the board moderators, can we run a test match through May 15th?
I’ll shoot and post an example target when I get home.
Thanks,
Jim
