OK.... so here is installment #2 of the 25 yard Field Target Positional Shooting Match.
We will shoot the GTA 30 yard Rested targets of the appropriate caliber.
http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=50.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=50.0)
I shoot .177 and use the .22 caliber (55) target and a .22 caliber scoring plug to make things easier and more inline with the benchrest matches I'm accustomed to.
At the moment, I don't really see any reason to make multiple classes besides just separating PCP from Springer. I shoot WFTF, and Jim shoots Open....both with PCPs, but we just shoot head to head.
I'm not sure if there will be any real participation from forum members, so I say we just lump Hunter, Open, and WFTF classes together.....and then the same for the guys shooting Springers.
So here are the rules.
Print 3 of the above referenced 30 yard rested targets of your caliber.
Shoot 2 1/2 targets (50 shots) sitting in you FT class appropriate manner at 25 yards. Please shoot vertical columns of 5.
Shoot 1 vertical column (5 shots) standing at 25 yards.
Shoot 1 vertical column (5 shots) kneeling at 25 yards.
Score your targets like you would for the 30 yard Rested match and post them here with the overall 3 target total.
If you miss the target rings altogether.....please count that as a 6.
Lets use May 15th @ 7:00 PM as the deadline for submitting scores.
Good luck, guys....and I hope we can get some participation as this will be a great practice for tuning up out FT shooting skills.

I have a busy two weeks coming up but I hope to get a target in for this one as long as the weather cooperates.

Dang Michael, that's some shooting! 8)

I shoot ft regularly , but my standing shots wouldn't even likely be on paper, so I'm jealous of those!

Nice shootin Mike.

Thanks guys,
I have been trying to shoot at least 50 shots offhand per day after work...doesn't always happen, though. It usually takes me at least 10 shots before I seem to get settled into a groove, and that's problematic for FT since you don't have any warm up time. It will get better. I am not going to use a shooting coat for FT. That may prove to be a poor decision, as I know they help a lot....but I'm just not interested in roasting myself this summer.

Here's mine.
Marty
Springer
HW 97KT
Viper 3-12X44
.177 AA 10.3
Bucket & sticks, 64deg, calm
554/600 9X shot on a 5.5mm target and scored with a .22 MT plug
Did a little better than the last match even though I missed the bull twice and shot the wrong bull on the last bull of the standing group. ;D

Good shooting, Marty!
It appears that we are poised to win our respective classes...lol. Maybe we will see some more guys jump in this weekend?

Alright first a big thanks for starting this competition I really enjoyed it
and it was great practice as I'd really like to start shooting FT and this was the first
time I'd actually practiced my sitting and kneeling positions, so it was a new and fun experience and I
hope to start doing it more often.
Finally got to roughly sight in and shoot yesterday with my new Viper 4-16x50 scope
So here is my entry:
farmerjoe99
FX whisper .177 19fpe Open class
Optisan 4-16x50 Viper at 16x
Air Arms 8.4gr at 1005fps.
50 degrees, only slight breeze as I shot in a 2 sided pole barn.
Score 506/600 7x

Far left is kneeling middle is standing. As well as two accidental double shots ::) for the one on target I simply scored the lower and other I thought was a complete miss of paper only to find later had just made it on...

Well....a bit of a slim turnout. Thanks to the guys that participated!
I'm surprised more guys don't find this interesting. It's pretty tough, and a good representation of the positional shots for a single FT match.
PCP Class
1st place.....michaelthomas 591 30x
2nd place.... farmerjoe99 506 7x
Springer Class
1st Place .....Marty2 554 9x
Good job, guys! I hope you consider joining in again.
Joe, it would appear to me that you may have shorted yourself some points. The trouble with scoring by pellet edge is that a round nosed .177 pellet usually will only cut a .150" or smaller hole. If you shoot on the .22 caliber targets and use a .22" caliber plug inserted in the hole....you will get a more accurate gauge of your performance. I had made a bunch of plugs at one time as freebies for the guys shooting here, but they have all been given out. I will try to get back on the lathe and run a bunch more....so check back with me if you would like one.
Thanks,
Mike
