Title: Turkey hits the ground with the extreme 28 gauge
Post by: Extreme Big Bore on April 20, 2016, 07:41:27 AM
Here is how it works. I take a 28 gauge wad and I take scotch tape and put 1 wrap of tape around the top of the wad then I put the BB'S in the wad and put scotch tape over the end to hold the shot in the wad. I modified the breech so the longer wad and shot fit in easily just like you would load a bullet with most big bore rifles. I made up 5 or 6 before the turkey hunt and put the extra filled wads in my pocket for quick follow up shots. I put a poly choke on the shotgun it allows me to either open the pattern or make it very tight. I found in testing that 1 ounce of number 5 shot patterned best with the choke set at extra full. I shot it at 30 yards and it put %90 of the BB'S in a 18 inch circle with no holes in the pattern with nitrogen and helium. 1050 FPS with nitrogen 1400 FPS on helium so I was very confident with either gas it would have more than enough power to take a turkey down with a pattern this tight. I went out last night around 4 in the evening and set my decoys about 20 yards from my tent in a cut corn field and got in my tent hit the call a few times and the bird gobbled and come in but would not come in to the decoys staying out about 35 yards from my tent I took the shot and it hit the ground flopping around like crazy so I knew I put BB's in the head. I went out to check the bird out and there were many BB's in the head. I will post pictures of the shotgun wad set up and the bird. I am very impressed with this shotgun and it passed the test and with the ease of loading now I will offer the Extreme shotgun as part of my line of airguns. I don't want to sound like I am bragging but this thing is an absolute powerhouse taking a turkey at 35 yards with an air powered gun put a BIG smile on my face.

We're limited to shotguns and bows/crossbows for Turkeys here. I might be very interested in one of these come Fall season, or even next spring.

Thanks for sharing!
