Title: .25 Turkish Webly Patriot troubles
Post by: Matt15 on April 05, 2016, 02:50:37 PM
So I have had my .25 Turkish Webly patriot for about 2 years now. It was really accurate up until about last fall.

When I first got it, I could get 1 inch groups at 20 yards. Now I get 2 inch groups at 10 yards.

It all started when I cleaned my barrel.  >:( After that I have put 100 pellets through it and it has not gotten any better.

I have tried all different holds and it likes a tight hold best. However the groups do not get any smaller that 2 inches.

I have always used JSB 25.4 gr and Benji 27.8 gr. domed pellets. They both shot with equal accuracy.

I have tightened all the screws and I am using open sites so it is not a scope problem.

Anyone have suggestions?

Hey Matt,
Have you cronied it for velocity?
I shoot 19.91 H&N's in my Hatsan 135 at 750fps.

How do you go about cleaning your barrel?

25.4 grain JSB fly at 715 FPS for 29 FPE.

I cleaned the barrel using weed wacker line and a patch made from an old sock.

Have you taken off the scope and tried open sight? It could be a scope failure. If your groups tighten up without the scope at 20 yrds then that's it.

I have never even scoped it.  ;D As stated above in my original post, I am using open sites.  ;)

1st. Why did you clean the barrel?
Did you have a POI issue that made you think you needed to?

Hey Matt,
First of all ........... still don't know the problem?  Maybe the barrel cleaning was just a coincidence with something else that occurred but you didn't notice?
1) Shoot 10/15 shots - are they a consistent velocity?
2) If yes, does your barrel have some other crud (rust) in it, or is crown damaged?
3) If you run a patch through it, can you feel any rough spots?
4) If no, something has got to be loose.  Check bolt through barrel and spacer.
5) If everything's tight in 4) - what the trigger pull, lightening it should help.

Okay. You got me thinking. I had forgotten that the reason why I cleaned the barrel was because I was missed a couple of squirrels I should have hit.  :-[

Sooooo, maybe it is not the barrel after all.  ::)

Hey Matt,
First of all ........... still don't know the problem?  Maybe the barrel cleaning was just a coincidence with something else that occurred but you didn't notice?
1) Shoot 10/15 shots - are they a consistent velocity? I will do that but I need to order pellets first. I have shot 5 over the chrony and gotten a 10 fps or less spread between highest and lowest fps.
2) If yes, does your barrel have some other crud (rust) in it, or is crown damaged? I will check
3) If you run a patch through it, can you feel any rough spots? Will check but I do not remember any.
4) If no, something has got to be loose.  Check bolt through barrel and spacer. I did. I did tighten it and it made it shoot higher than my sites would adjust so I loosened it back up. When it was tight the groups remained the same size.
5) If everything's tight in 4) - what the trigger pull, lightening it should help.Trigger pull is nice and light

I will also note that I have only put 3 tins of pellets (total of around 1000 pellets) through this gun. Maybe I am out of practice. :)

I also shimmed the breech seal with no difference in accuracy or fps.

Once I get some more pellets, I will test some more and let you guys know the results. ;)

Got to thinking last night. So here is the story.

I went squirrel hunting and I missed 1 squirrel at 10 yards twice.  >:(

I came home and shot a 3 shot group at 10 yards. It was about 1 inch. Not terrible.

I then ran 5 patches through the barrel. I did not use any sort of cleaner. Just 5 dry patches.

I put the gun away and a couple weeks later got it out and put 20 pellets through it. I then shot a 5 shot group and it was  2 inches at ten yards.

I tightened all the screws and tried again. Still 2 inch groups.

So what I am guessing it is right now is a dirty barrel.  ;D I ran 5 dry patches through it but that may not have been enough to clean it good.
I will clean the barrel real good and report back.

You know that when you clean the barrel you may need to lead it back in right?

Yes. How many shots do you think it should take?

Hey Matt,
Lastly, if you need to loosen the barrel bolt to use your open sights, I would try bending your barrel down slightly.  This should not be too hard and there is a thread Pinned in "Home Tricks" gate by ezman604.
Loosening the barrel bolt so you can use open sights only adds to inaccuracy, everything should be tight.
Rapping the end of the barrel downward with a big rubber hammer might even be enough ;)

I did tighten it up and even though it was shooting high, the groups were no better. I shot two pellets at 20 yards last night(All I had left) and they were 1 inch apart so that is not bad at all.
