Has anyone removed a Hatsan springer break barrel from the block it is pressed in?
-
I've removed it from the forks at pivot point. Never imagined anything else. What are you doing- trying to replace barrel with other brand?
-
Never done it but have thought about it.
I'd think we'd destroy the barrel being removed.
Using heat and cold we could put a new barrel in.
Or drill and tap the breech block for set screws?
I have a Quest here that may make a good test subject.

Hey Jeff, my break just slid of my 125 barrel. Now a question all my tunes include a new crown, so how do you get the stupid break off the 95. Boiling water didn't soften it. How did you get yours off?
Look at my post http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=106634.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=106634.0) Both the Talon and 95 are this way How about yours?

I'd love to know how ya got it off the 125 (without destroying it...)! I've seen one video and it had to be taken off in pieces.
On removing barrel from breach block, getting it off might not be near as hard as getting another back in.
-
As I said on the 125, one light tap and it slid off.
Also, I'm still looking for answers to the barrels being pressed too tight in the block. Push some pellets through the Hatsan barrel and see if they are like my 125 and 95. I'd just like to know if all the Hatsan barrels are tight for the area in the breech block

Not just Hatsan, all of them should be, at least where the pellet loads. Pushing should take some effort, then it will "pop" into the barrel (mostly due to lack of control from pushing).
-
You want some tightness at the breech area I'm thinking.
That would allow more pressure before the pellet starts it's travel.
-
Yep, I thought about that Jeff. I just wondered if your barrel and others where that way.
I've got a TF 99 that jumps 100 FPS just flaring the skirts, the breech is too loose.
As far as the muzzle break I can't believe those 3 sets of splines can hold it so secure. One way or the other I will get it off to do the crown.

So Rob, is this pic how yours came off, or is it the pic of the capture from youtube I was referring to where it had to be cut off in pieces? Maybe they changed the way they are put together since the video was posted?
(We are talking the same gun right, Hatsan 125 ... mine's a 12/2014 Vortex)
-
This a picture from You Tube. My 125 is the Walther Talon Magnum which is the same as a Hatsan 125. Hatsan made it and all parts are interchangeable.
Do the 95's look different than the photo I posted?
-
Hey Guys,
I'm about to remove the muzzle brake from one of my Hatsan 95's. There was a post a few years ago by ezman604, where he took a 4x4 and drilled out the center to a little larger than the barrel. He then cut the block in half (down the middle) so both sides could loosely fit over barrel - clamp together to secure.
Then take a mallet and pound on the 4x4 until the brake slides off the splines. This procedure assumes you want to save the brake and put back on. If not, cut away and remove anyway you can.
RCO - The Hatsan 95 looks the same!
Kirk
-
Thanks Kirk. I don't need to save it but would like to anyway. As I've stated I won't get to my tools for a couple of weeks. I can understand the splines, but what's with the huge taper cut?
I can't believe all those "tuned" 95's are out there with the factory crown jobs.
-
I have the Walther Talon. All I can say is you got lucky that the brake came off so easy. Tried to take mine off to make polishing the barrel easier. Saw pictures on how easy it's suppose to be...never got mine off. Had to fiddle to pass rope/rod past the brake every other pass.

Kirk, looks like a different moderator on the Snipers though same power plant, so no idea if the moderator is different on the 125 Vs. the 95's, but in the pic from the youtube video where Voldemort cut it into many pieces, the picture seems to suggest one splined piece where the moderator is attached may screw into the end of the barrel. No idea personally but given the splines I cannot imagine a situation where once it's off it will be reusable. Still as I said, this is the 125 and you mentioned the 95...
Sorry if off topic Rob - I don't mean to steal your thread!
-
That's OK Steve. My 125 isn't a sniper and has the same muzzle end as the 95. The 125 snipers have the moderator. My 125 and the 95 has basically a cocking handle. There are no threads except for the small Allen screw.
Jeff posted that the crown can be done with the break left on.

The crown on most Hatsan barrels are pretty good. ;D Hatsan barrels are one of their strong suites. Is yours messed up? Why do you want to recrown it?

Some people like to open the stock crown up a bit.
I do a good inspection of it first.
After doing the Tune if it's still not shooting quite right?
I'll touch up the crown.
-
Hey Rob,
Knocked off the muzzle brake on my Hatsan 95 today. The barrel end looks identicle to the sniper, except we know they have different brakes/(@*#&%(*@&) mounted on them.
Had to heat mine up with a torch (like a well done hotdog) and then pound off with 3lb hammer & chisel.
I'm making my own muzzle brake on the lathe out of aluminum. It s/b nice ;)
Hatsan PCP's are notorious for having lousy crown's :o
-
So is the break ruined? I plan on making a balancer for the muzzle end. If it doesn't work than a regular plain break will get made. The delrin, new seal and buttons will be waiting for me when I get home.

Can ya post a pic of the barrel and brake?
(long story, not my thread...)
-
Yup, it got roasted ;D
-
OK thanks again Kirk. I guess they have to be destroyed to be removed. I won't make another attempt to remove until I get home. Making your new break you can get about 1 1/2 shorter barrel. If I could choke the barrel, I'd cut the barrel off at the tapered cut. It would be a nice carbine.
It's too expensive to have it sent out to be choked. $40 + shipping two ways. Thanks for all the help Guys, it is appreciated.
-
Hey Rob,
Got the barrel and brake done. I took an additional 1- 1/2" of the barrel as it didn't need to be that long and made the gun slightly barrel heavy. It is my understanding the Hatsan springer's are not choked. Their PCP's are slightly, which you can feel as you clean the barrel.
My Hatsan 95 is now likely 2-1/2" shorter than OEM.
I will put up some pictures tomorrow ;)
-
I asked a known tuner on the forum about a choke job. His answer to me was that the Hatsan barrels are all choked. I'll PM his name if you want to talk to him.

Mine is (H125 Vortex 1/2015)

My 95 Vortex is chocked too....... ::)

I've had some that seemed to have no choke to some that had to be lapped.
There's a lot of threads on doing a home choke here at GTA.
If you do attempt to do a choke? Be ready to do some lapping if you go to tight.
You would be wise to buy a cheap barrel from crosman or some other source to practice on before you do the Hatsan.
I've also read that if one threads the end of a barrel with a die it causes a choke effect to a degree.
