We are thinking about some possible gate changes. In particular, the PCP Gate. This is just a thought so we need your input. We have some brand specific gates, such as Crosman and Daisy. As well as gates for specific country of origin such as China, Turkey, European, etc... These gates have been specifically for springer airguns. Then there is the PCP Gate which catches ALL topics related to that power source. What David and I have tossed around is the idea of moving specific brand PCPs into a child gate under that brand. For instance, go to Crosman and you will find a springer gate and a PCP gate. And so forth for other brands. The PCP Gate COULD be done away with or could contain just generic PCP related questions/comments. We believe it would make searching for topics or posting a bit easier. But would require a LOT of work by the staff in moving threads. So, we are tossing this idea out there for your vote.
I have attached a poll so please cast your vote on if you would like to see some reorganization or not. And please post your comments/suggestions. We ARE a member owned and managed forum. We value your input since this is YOUR forum.

Personally I don't necessarily think that a change HAS to be made as the search option helps greatly but if one were, I'd vote to add child gates for each brand under PCP gate. In my mind it makes more sense to keep the powerplants together then separate into brand/country vs having brands/countries then splitting that into different powerplants. Just my thoughts from someone who isn't the most savvy with puters

I think the alot of useful general PCP information will be missed if the pcp powerplant is merged with it's brand specific gate. If a change needs to be made I think brand specific child gates could be most useful in the pcp gate. General PCP info could be posted in the parent gate. Then again, The forum is not split into Springer, Pumper, C02 and HPA/PCP gates with brand specific child boards. Hat's off to you guys. I know I wouldn't want to be the one making such a call. You're not going to please everyone. I, for one, will support whatever ya'll decide.

I voted for the "brand specific . . . under PCP gate" because I am mainly interested in Crosman PCPs. I usually skip over discussions about other brands anyway. This would save time for others like me.

;D Dave, I think if there is a change it would better serve the community to keep all PCP related gates within the Darkside with Country of origin child gates. But if it is done that way I will be happy to continue monitoring Several PCP related gates and abdicate my China Springer responsibilities

I would do brand specific gates under the Darkside gate. Definitely don't do PCP specific gates under the brand gates. That seems extremely convoluted to me.

Most of what I post is generic, and would be missed by those who go to a brand-specific gate.... and we are not allowed to post duplicates.... I enjoy going to a single PCP gate each time I visit to see what is new, or needs a reply, that is in my area of interest.... I would seldom/never visit a gate for brands I do not own....

I don't spend much time in the gates, so cant give a valid vote. Once my mrod gets here I will be visiting it more often.

I like the darkside how it is but if there IS going to be a change it would be child gates UNDER the PCP gate.... keep the powerplants together.... though generally.... I think the darkside is good how it stands.... and if people want something specific they need to learn to use the search function

You can sub-divide things too much. Without enough participation, or even the appearance of participation, things will whither. I recommend that you just keep PCPs as a whole because most of what is discussed applies across all platforms.

Absolutely agree with most of the voters majority pick .... Leave it alone.
So much of the tuning and in depth knowledge shared threw out PCP threads applies more to all brands than is does generally towards a specific brand or model.
Is is of my opinion if the PCP gate was broken up much of this "TECH" and "KNOWLEDGE" will get missed by the very members who may be able to utilize it.

When I first read your post I thought "Oh yeah, why wouldn't all members want specific gates to make searches easier?" ;)
But I have to admit, I would seldom go to most subdivided gates unrelated to the guns I own :P.
The current PCP gate is starting to look pretty crowded, but like my workbench or an "Old Fashioned" hardware store, I sometimes don't know where everything is, but kind of like digging around ::).

I would support having the brands under the PCP Gate or leaving all as is. Moving them to the individual brand gates would spread them out too much.

If it is not broken don't touch it!!
The way it is now makes it very easy to keep up with all new ideas that can be useful to all brands but if it is posted in one brand it will be missed by many Darksiders.
It is nice to be able to go to one gate and check out all the post that are listed as NEW. In this manner it is much easier to be up to date on new ideas & info

Just trying to please everyone. And that is sometimes a very difficult task. Believe me, we don't LOOK for more work to do. I agree for the most part, if it's not broken, don't fix it.
But we have been asked by others to reorganize to make more sense and make it easier to users. So, I put this out there for your thoughts. I'm fine where things are myself.
And in keeping our way, letting the membership have a voice in THEIR forum, David and I put this out for your opinions.
Again, many thanks for letting us hear from you. I'll leave this open for a few more days but it appears we just need to leave things as is....for now.
We now return you to the normally scheduled chaos.

I find it hard to believe that with 16000+ members only 26 have expressed an opinion. I'm not criticizing at all, I'm just shocked. One has to wonder if the balance would sway more in a different direction if more members would vote. Bob Sterne hit my previous point right on the head. If our question or topic on a particular post is gun origin unique it would be helpful to specify that in the subject line. In my opinion.. if anything with the forum needs attention it would be the "library". Outdated and unorganized. If I didn't work 10 - 12 hours 6 - 7 days a week I would volunteer to tackle it. There is an abundance of information there and even more that would be useful that is not there. Again... thank all of the admins and mods who unselfishly and generously monitor and maintain this forum. I can honestly say that the GTA is solely responsible for my air gun enthusiasm at it's present level.

My first thought was to have a sub gate eg. Hatsan child gate PCP. You would not believe how many people put PCPs in the Hatsan gate and when moved to the Darkside they get upset about their post being moved. Then again I see the majority's point of view to leave it as it is, because like Bob said their are many posts that are generic. Then their are those posts that while generic they mention a certain brand, others will want the post moved because the brand was mentioned. Anything to make this a better place I am for, and sometimes for better or worse this is every ones home away from home. I hate it when my wife rearranges the furniture, if she moves the cactus plant to where my chair was it can become painful. >:(

I will say the Library would fall under my area of responsibility. It takes a bit of computer savvy and the right webpage management program to organize and edit it. And most of all of course, the necessary available time. In this case, two out of three isn't good enough. :)
I'll work on the library when I can. As it stands right now, I have had very little time to do anything I used to do. Or need to do.

Ok I'll throw my 2 cents in. In the case of Crosman or Hatsan it would probably help sort it out some. In my case with a HW PCP it probably be a waste of space. I've only ran into 5 or 6 members I know of with them. I vote to leave it as is for now, and see how it goes.

Most have said they won't look through separate gates. I don't do that anyhow unless I'm looking for post about a certain gun. An example is Air Arms Pro Sport. I went to the UK gate and it was nice. Mostly TX200's and Prosports made it easy to go back and check out post from the last couple of years. I think having them split up is better than a big mess of everything going on in one place.
Otherwise I use the "Show unread post since last visit" up top and all new threads from all gates are there so I don't miss something interesting to me no matter what gate it is in.

I agree with most of whats been said,
most of whats posted in the Darkside gate applies to most all PCP's in one way or another
(Beside this is the darkside who has just one... ???) ;)
and I hear alot of people complain about how many gates there are
(doesn't bother me personally) I think its fairly well balanced as is
but I agree if you are going to do it(and it would have a few advantages)
to do them as sub gates of the Darkside and leave a main gate for general tuning, facts of HPA,
or tuner tips etc.
However 95% of the time I simply use the unread since last visit button ;)
