I bought a QB-78 .408 cal. conversion from Troy Manny a couple of years ago. While it was a fun, big bore rifle I added an Evanix Max in .45 to my arsenal and decided to repurpose my QB. I've been watching the FX Verminator and the more recent Benjamin Airbow with interest however the price tags were a bit much. So, I got to thinking....
I'll bet my .408 QB would make a good platform for an arrow gun. So, I sat down at the drawing board and came up with this:
-
Would this mod work on a CO2 powered QB? Or does it need to be high pressure air to get enough power?
-
Hey Razor62,
How does one control the accuracy of the arrow :o ?
This looks experimental at best :P

I would think most arrow guns have a thin "barrel" (ie piece of tubing) inside the barrel that the arrow slides on to guide it?.... If not, I can't imagine it staying very straight on launch.... Actually, CO2 might work OK for this idea, it is typically good for launching heavy objects at relatively low velocity.... providing you have big enough passages....

There is a LOT of flexing going on to the shaft when an arrow is launched, so as Bob said probably a thin tube would work better than a " barrel ". Just my opinion.

Launched from a bow string, yes. But from a blast of air from the inside? I wouldn't think nearly as bad.

Kevin, have you tested this yet? What mods have you done to the gun if any?

I don't know Richard. Just a thought.

Watch the Tedsholdover videos on the Fx air arrow gun they are slow mo and there is no arrow paradox like you get from a bow string. All of the energy is transfered to the front of the arrow and it pulls the rest of it instead of absorbing string oscillation from the nock end of the arrow. This is a very interesting build I hope you continue I would love to see it shoot.

Hi guys. I made a video which should help to answer your questions however I'm not allowed to post a working link here but you should be able to search You Tube for "Arrow Gun Prototype" by Kevin LaRose to see the gun in action.
I've since done some cosmetic improvements on the stock and finish:
