The last time I crony'd my 135 I was disappointed that the velocity went down and the extreme spread went up. Two 10-shot strings went like this:
Low = 918, 913
High = 966, 953
Avg = 953, 932 (28.1 fpe)
ES = 48, 40
SD = 14, 16
Definitely not the performance it should have had...
So I decided to do something with the breech seal which I had never touched. Oh, I should mention that this is the rifle I accidentally bent the barrel on when I had let it slip out of my hand while cocking...
This is what the seal looked like. Perfectly flat with the surrounding metal.

I was surprised with the depth of the seal. It seemed to be in OK shape.

I tried a bunch of different things to shim the seal. Of all things I ended up using the small metal wire pulled out of a twist tie. And this is what it looks like:

The end result? A much tighter spread!
Low = 947, 944
High = 957, 956
Avg = 953, 950(28.7 fpe)
ES = 10, 12
SD = 3, 4
Oh, the numbers are with .22 Crosman Premier Ultra Magnums which shoot better than anything else I've tried... Here's a pretty typical 30 yard 10-shot "group":

Unflavored waxed dental floss will do the same. I had the same problem with my Daisy poweline 1000 and Crosman G1, both had o-rings like yours.

Given the depth of the seal you could see what's available in the plumbing department of your local hardware store and try stacking two O rings. That's basically what Air Arms does in the TX 200.

That's what I used on my 95, worked great. ;)

I have an Edge Vortex .22. The breech seal has a very slight crease in it...my bad. I have been debating "shimming" with dental floss but didn't want to take the chance of ruining the seal. What is the best way to remove the seal so it is still usable so I can shim it. The picture shows an eyeglass screwdriver. Is it that simple to carefully remove with a fine-tipped screwdriver? I went online and some people recommend an air compressor to guarantee not "nicking" the breech.
Thnx in advance.

A plastic dental pick with a flosser at one end is stiff enough to remove a seal without nicking it.

I just used a very small flat screwdriver like the one shown in Matts' pics. Take your time and it'll slide out pretty easily. If you need to replace it that's one part you can order direct from Hatsan. They sell 'em in 4-packs--$10 for the seals, $5 for the shipping. Kinda pricy but at least you can get them.

There about 3/4 of the way down on the left. Break barrel breech seals, #805.
Yer welcome. ;)

I haven't been home to try it, but I read a guy removes them using an air nozzle. He said they pop right out.

4 for $10 even with the shipping actually isn't a bad deal considering I already own 5 Hatsans and the Webley that more than likely all use that same seal...plus I'm about to get a brand new Model 87 QE and a new Webley Tomahawk and both of those probably have that same seal so for $25 I'd have enough for all 8 rifles if I ever needed them. I just might have to and stick 'em in the tool box....lol

The seal was pretty tough. I did not have a problem getting it out. And the dental pick idea looks great! I'll plan on using one next time :-)

I'd love to see a full report on the Tomahawk after you get it. :P

Ordered the Tomahawk a week ago from AoA...apparently they took their beyond sweet time shipping it because I just got the e-mail (a week after ordering) to let me know it was finally shipping and I should receive it the 30th...so much for figuring I might be able to post anything about it this weekend.
I ordered the Hatsan Mod 87 QE 4 days AFTER the Tomahawk....tracking says it will be here tomorrow...

Sorry to hear it takes AOA that long to get an order out. Maybe they don't have 'em in stock and have to get them from Hatsan. ??? Not a good thing, especially for a new customer.
You can report on the 87 though. I'll be looking forward to that and your feelings (and pics?) of the Tommy when you finally get it.
