Living out here in North County and looking to see if there are anyone out here with same interests...shooting AG's that is.
-
Theres a fair number of airgun enthusiasts here in SD county. The one fella from Valley Center was going to host a shoot at his place in Feb but the weather moved in and rained it out. Hopefully we can get together at least once this spring as nothing beats putting names to faces. I'm in Santee myself but my backyard is very limited to range and noise.

Hi there, new member in the area, Scripps Ranch.
I'm actually in the process of researching the sport and hoping to be able to reach out to some locals for advice and info.

Hi Deac, I'm in Santee what aspect of the sport is interesting to you? One aspect I like about airguns, even in my 7 yard hallway in the house I can find a challenge to shoot (IZH 61 or Pistol). Where and what you intend to shoot will dictate where you start, that said in the vast majority of cases the last place to buy your first gun will be local stores.
Like golf this sport is intertwined with the hardware closely. It's important to have a gun you can shoot with reliable results at the start to avoid discouragement. Let us know what you want to start with as a target and the envelope (Noise and distance) to get a feel.

Thanks for the welcome and encouragement Huklbery.
I'm currently looking at PCP rifles. Specifically I'm considering the Marauder .25 or the Sam Yang Recluse.
I've spoken to the guys at P2K range and they have no problem with either of the rifles at thier range as long as it's pellets, not BBs. So I would have a local place to shoot. A bonus to the area are all the dive shops so I can rent a scuba tank filled for 10-15 a day making air a lot easier than a pump or the expense of a HPA tank. :)
Outside if that I do go out offroading and camping in the deserts, Anza Borrego, Joshua Tree, etc. so there are opportunities for me to take a rifle along and a target.
I doubt I'll ever get into the hunt but I wouldn't rule it out completely.
My main concern is purchasing a rifle online which seems to be my only option really, without having seen or held it, let alone shooting to even know if this is something I really want to invest in.

Well if you want to drop by in Santee PM me, I can let you shoot my .25 Marauder, limited yardage but you can at least get a feel of it. I have a Hatsan At44PA in .25 but its a bit loud for the backyard.
-
Hey thanks Huklbery I might have to take you up on that.
-
Grumpy (Dave) just put a Recluse up for sale, just beware its gonna be loud.
-
Looking for shooters in SD and surrounding. I just bought a gun and found out about restrictions.
-
East county tends to be a bit looser.. what kinda shooting are you into?
-
I think I am 23-25 miles north of the San Diego County line in Riverside County.
-
I just bought a air rifle that will arrive tomorrow. Didnt know about the laws, didnt expect it to be so restricted.
I am not into any type of shooting yet, hoping to do some club level competition. Getting back to it after several decades. Used to shoot down lizards off the walls as a kid.
Some casual outdoors gathering would be nice, targets and such. I know Temecula, dont mind travelling.

New member chiming in from North County San Diego, Vista.
While not technically legal, I shoot my pellet guns and have a small archery range on my 1/2 acre property.
-
I'm in Oceanside and shoot several times a week have air and chrono and some property range is decent to 150 yards at the house. Ground squirrel and rabbit on the property. Anyone have some pests they need cleared out please let know, if anyone wants to come dust of some rounds let me know.
-
MrTerrible,
What part of Oceanside/Vista are you in?
I'm right off Sycamore and S Santa Fe. Despite being on unincorporated county land, air rifles are technically illegal in my part of town.
I shoot from inside my garage into my side yard to keep a low profile, but only get about 15 yards that way.
I would be up for a meet up sometime.

I checked out the CASA website, that looks like a lot of fun. You guys are pretty serious! Too bad Tujunga is so far away, that looks like a hoot and I am sure I could learn a lot from you guys (and gals).
What year CJ5 you got? I have a '56 that just went through a major restoration. It's been in the family since '56 :D

Wow is that nice! I had an 83 CJ5. Sold it a long time ago and miss is it. Wife has recently been bugging me to get another but man have the prices gone up!
When I got it it basically looked like yours. Then I got into rock crawling. 😜

And I realize the CASA matches are far but any of you that are interested are welcome any time. It is very low pressure. Several of the guys drive pretty far for the matches. Sunday is for sure the better traffic day.
