Title: "New and Improved" hammer time strikes
Post by: 454 Big Block Chevy on February 26, 2016, 10:19:08 PM
well, got the condor SS upgraded with the full talon tunes setup.  Carbon fiber tank, drop down adapter, TT valve, etc.  well finally got it dialed in where i'm happy with it.  15 shots at 58 FPE with 31 grain rat snipers.  62 FPE with 33.95 grain JSB heavies, and 70 FPE with 45 grain snipers.  all on same exact settings.  i've been really really liking the 31 snipers, they float allong at 910 fps average.  have a real nice tight bell curve.  and they poke super super tiny hole out to 50 yards.  well during shooting over the chrono, i saw a Chipmunk run accross the retaining wall.  i immediatly rotated and tried to zero on him but he dipped into a hole.  i sat trained on the hole for maybe a minute and a half.  finally i saw just the very top of his head pop up.  i could see his eyes level with the top of the wall.  looking at me.  this went on for a minute.  finally i just said "@#!#%^" it and let the slug fly.  i dug a roughly 1/2 a MM groove in the retaining wall with the slug, and popped him directly in between the eyes, watched the red mist fly, and saw blood everywhere.  he rolled inside the hole.  i couldn't love my setup any more than i do.

Good shooting Ed!  I am glad you are happy with the TT tune.  Did Tony tune the trigger?  My TT Condor had a TT "full tune" which included a trigger tune.  The trigger could not have been more than 2lbs which helped with accuracy, but your Condor is extremely accurate.  I am sure you want nothing changed :)  How does yours shoot with the JSB 34gr heavies?  So far I have stuck with the JSB Kings because they are the most accurate out of all the "mass produced" .25 pellets I have tried so far, but I am curious about the 33.9gr JSB especially because I can bring the velocity down to the 900's with them.  I guess it's time for a P/A pellet order.

Have fun with your super tuned Condor SS! :)

Nice shooting! Airforce guns are perfect for those shots where you gotta thread the needle to get the target.

the 33.95 grain pellets are having GREAT accuracy.  I like the performance of the rat snipers.  the massive expansion is killer.

Glad to hear that Ed!  My TT .25 barrel was also re-crowned by Tony about 5-6yrs ago and that's when it got laser accurate.  So I am hoping it will like the JSB 33.9 heavies as yours does.  If the heavies are as accurate as the Kings it will be my go to pellet.

How is shot consistency with the new TT tank/valve?  Have you shot 15 rat snipers or JSB's through the Chrony?  I want to see what kind of consistency his valves have.

One thing puzzles me though.  My Condor with a 90gram hammer (it's actually just under 88 grams) shoots 31gr Kodiaks at 1070+fps on high power.  Why does yours only get 910fps with 31gr rat snipers?  I know you have and 18" barrel, but the carbon fiber tank with the power-tuned valve is supposed to get more power than factory.  Is 910fps at high power, or at a mid-level setting where you get the best consistency?  I get &^^& consistency when I dial mine up to get 80fpe with 31gr (or 90fpe with 43gr EJ's), so I normally shoot mine at 60 or 70fpe with Kings and Kodies respectively, and also to keep the report down.

harry, i have a few things going on here.  the 31 grain rat snipers have a lot more friction area, and it slows them down.  also i have an o ring under the top hat to cushion it and lessen the FPS.  finally i only have an 18 inch barrel, where as you have a 24 inch barrel.  i've noticed almost a 100 fps difference in 24-18 inch barrels.    i also have my gun set to 0-4, if i took the o ring out and turned the PW up a few numbers i'd break 1200 fps with kings.

Ah you still have the o-ring under the tophat.  The #'s make sense now.

I don't know about 1200fps with Kings...  That's 81fpe with a light pellet? ;)  Mine breaks 1,100 with Kings but not much above that. I think it was ~1120fps with PW-8.  31gr Kodiaks max out at 1,074ps (Kings are usually 50fps more).  It used to be a little more powerful but I took out the stiffer TT spring, and put in a stock Condor hammer spring in it as per Tony's recommendation a few years ago.

i "missed" one today... not sure how.  i held dead on its head.  the pellet struck the wood behind him, and the chipper dissapeared.  i found fur, in the bullet hole, but no blood.  no body.  i have NO earthly idea.  i hit exactly where his head was.  i don't see how a chipmunk could duck the shot, at 910 fps.  mind blow.  and i am 100% certain i have a chipmunk with a cool hairdo.....
