Title: I think I need to upgrade my rack

Not as big a collection as some of you. But I sure love it! And yes that is a PB shot gun, just overlook that.

That one on the bottom right... is that a pumper or a springer?
The rack seems to serve the purpose. We've got slabs of cedar and pine on the walls with guns on them. Even an old weather beaten fence door.

The one on the bottom right is a stringer, not a springer. One of my other hobbies. I built that uke out of firewood. Bits of walnut and maple I culled out of our woodpile. The problem with my rack is it is at capacity....no room for expansion.

Actually, I was referring to her shoe collection.

I hear tell, she could put Imelda Marcos to shame  ;D.

;D ;D ;D ;D I just new this was gonna go there ( but I thought I was gonna be the one to do it ).    Nice job on that ukulele man !! I've been trying to learn to play my grandpa's old git ( a 1971 fender branded version of a harmony Stella acoustic ) but I'm not very good at it . Obviously you play, so good for you ( I don't think it's ever gonna happen for me, but there's always his old honer harmonicas I can try to learn to play, I just wish he was still around to teach me )

Oh my gosh !! Another missed opportunity. I must be getting old.
Anyhow... you do know that more rack space means more air guns and more air guns means more rack space right? It's a bottomless pit that most of us are still falling into.

I'm with avator on the bottomless pit thing... I have a 3 gun rack in the garage that's full, a 6 gun pistol rack in the garage that has 7 in it, 5 guns leaning up against the beer fridge in the office, one leaning up against the door to the office (on the kitchen side), somewhere around 10 in the gun safe, about the same leaning in the closet in the office, around 5 in the pantry, around 10 pistols in the ammo cabinet in the office and I think 8 in the gun cabinet in the bedroom. Oh, and a Crosman 2100 in the daily driver and a modified Crosman Recruit in the big truck... oh, and 6 pellet rifles sitting next to me. If that doesn't add up to 102, the rest are strewn around somewhere or other :), just remembered there's 3 sitting next to my end of the couch awaiting tinkering...

Ya do what ya gotta do, I must have found a keeper of a woman though since she doesn't seem to mind the BB/pellet guns strewn around the house... once I have little ones around I'm sure that will change but for now I'm ok...

My wife's shoe collection is not that big. Her hobby is yarn. She spins and knits. And yes her hobby is even more absorbing than mine.

All of mine are leaned in corners or against walls throughout the house or in a dedicated closet in 'the back room'. Plus the several that are usually in the back seat of the mini van, under a blanket.

My wife's shoes are one of the reasons she can't complain about my air guns and she has a great rack! LOL

All joking aside about your hard cases, I was always told storing your gun in a case can trap moisture. And as our friend Robby the Robot said (read this in your best mechanical voice) "I never use it myself sir, it promotes rust". 50 bonus points to whoever can name the movie.

I use to think that myself about storing in hard cases but it also depends on where you store them and wiping the guns down after using them can make a big difference. Since I shoot on a regular basis it's kind of hard for any moisture build up to occur. Also when I shoot, I leave the case open while shooting, allowing the foam to air out. Another thing I do before storing the gun is let it sit out for a while and let it become acclimated to room environment and then wipe it down.

The quote was also stated in the movie Gremlins(1984) without the word oxygen in it.

anytime shoes are bought save the silica packets, I put them in my toolbox to keep my old carbon steel tools from rusting and they work pretty well. ( they make larger ones that toucan buy but I'm not sure )

Hi all, if you know someone who uses a grinder a lot, (machinist, knife sharpener) just ask for the grindings put in cotton spice/tobacco pouch (draw string cheap cotton sac). and place in gun cases. No grinders... take inexpensive superfine steel wool wash in soapy water Use har dryer to dry thouroughly place in a thin cotton sack place in case, again the concept is same water sees your nice thin clean dry iron mesh and goes to it. So if you wipe down the guns berfore putting in the case, this may be enough.

Plus ask everyone you know to save those bags that say do not eat...they are going to toss them out anyway!!!

The Iron filing concept came from a big can of peanuts it was packed inside as a "getter" as they used to say in Tubes, for electronic devices.

hope this is helpful.

I've sure got a lot of metal grindings and filings, you could also fill one of those sacks with chalk powder for a chalk line ( same as keeping a price of chalk in your toolbox )

I do not know if chalk is as hydroscopic as iron filing are rustable, but if indeed it does then why not

or packets of dried white rice , we put it in salt shakers in times of high humidity.  It is food for thought non the less.
