Really want to get a globe front for my D48. I love open sights, but not real happy with the thick log type currently in production on this gun. Any of you guys hear of plans or availability of such a hood? I saw an old PA post on a very limited supply for the T05 some years ago from Umarex. This was such a sweet looking unit. Hate to have to file down the current sight to give better sight picture for long range shooting, but will if I have to. Anyone else thought of this, or have come up with a solution?

If I were to relegate my 48 to iron sights only I would definitely opt for a rear peep sight and keep the front blade. Then file down the front and add a little paint. That makes for a great sight picture.

Thanks, Sandaholic. I have relegated this one to open sights, it has a little vibration issue. Looking into soft bedding it this weekend. Might put a scope on it afterwards depending, but bought it as a hunter and it's heavy scoped. Anyway, I saw a great mod Hector Medina made in an old post with a twilight aperture insert peep and a Williams Firesight front mod with cross dovetail that was really sweet. I wish I had the talent and tools to make my own, but sadly I don't. Might just file the post down and see what happens. A peep is the obvious next step, but am more concerned about the front right now. This thing is as wide as a coke can at 50 plus, and that just won't cut it for me.

I got an RWS peep site looks like a match site years ago for my 177 - 48 and it had a stop pin matched the hole on the rail. well the rifle tore the bottom of the site. reamed out the hole and grinded the base while sliding back. those rifle kills scopes as well as peep sites

Hello Kurt!
I think you are referring to this:

The part was difficult to machine and not quite nice looking, so, when I launched the 430 Stutzen project I came up with this modification:

You can see the process in this blog entry:

This CAN be done to the 48/52/54 ramps, if you do not mind using that part, that is doable.
There are other ways:
- We can dovetail the front element:

- or you can also get this part:

and attach a fiberoptic front or a metal :

In the end, what you want is a clear sight picture:

The rear sight to use depends on the modification you decide on for the front. Either the Williams AGR or the 54 should work.
Think it over and let me know.
Keep well and shoot straight!

Hector, yes sir, that's the one, and I think it looks great. You are skilled. It didn't even dawn on me that you could simply dovetail the existing front element. Brilliant. You would then have the flexibility to use several aftermarket sights with the bonus of stability to recoil as well. I do really like that 56434 312N from the original mod. Small, thin, and a nice firelight top. This is the first forum I have ever been a part of, and have a lot to learn on how to get messages to people, link old post, etc. Sure would like to talk more on this with you. I really like this forum, but at 50 and just getting my first cell phone this year, I have a lot to learn on even sending a simple text. I will learn though. Thanks so much for your effort getting all this good info and pictures here for me.
