Title: My frankinstein airgun project
Post by: bantam5s on February 05, 2016, 11:51:15 PM
A few years ago I bought a ruger explorer ,and while It was fun the stock was ugly and the grip was small. So I butchered up the stock and tried to attach a wire stock ( which was a fail ) so I ended up shortening the barrel to 9 inches, basically leaving me with a long pistol. Well today I started thinking about it and how It had been painted with the same paint as the stock from the 760 I got from my brother, so the seed was planted and I just winged it and started on it.

Here's where I'm at so far(http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn4/oldarmyhat123/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0054_zpsw2ad6c29.jpg) (http://s300.photobucket.com/user/oldarmyhat123/media/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0054_zpsw2ad6c29.jpg.html). I got it cut for the stock to fit, put a long screw in it, and am now waiting on the epoxy to cure.  I'm attaching the 760 pump as a comb because the stock angle ended up a little low. I plan on getting some epoxy putty and trying to blend the parts together fairly seamlessly ( I hope I'll be able to do that good of a job ) then repaint it .  I hope my project turns out OK, and I'll try to post updates as the project progresses. ( if I can remember to take pics between steps )

thanks! It should turn into something fun to mess around with ( though I don't remember if I even re crowned the barrel, so it may not be the most accurate until I do ) if it doesn't turn out well, I'll just try and get a little industry brand youth Springer ( I know they make one, I just don't know what model it is, if they still make it, or how cheap they are )  ;D ;D

Isn't it going to be hard to cock?

shouldn't be. my ruger airhawk is chopped to 12". I don't have a bit of problem with it, and that's a 15 fpe gun. bantam5s gun probably isn't even 12 fpe.
personally, I think it's pretty sick looking, in a good way  ;D ;D.

I've been messing with is as an oversized pistol for about a year, so know it's really easy to cock.

The current Explorer is rated at 495 FPS (maximum) with 16.5 pounds cocking effort.  The short barrel should be just fine.  Keep us posted.

It's been saw off for over a year now, and it's not hard to cock at all.
