Lloyd, found this in chapter 6
Throat and Groove dimensions.
"Ideally, a cast bullet should  be fired through a long taper. A taper of about .0015 is ideal, if it can be achieved. The old time barrel makers who made match grade target rifles actually lapped a long taper into their barrels tapering from .002 larger at the breech to minimum diameter at the muzzle."

The more I read, the more excited I get about
the possibilities of lapping the land diameters
on the barrel liners.

Bill,
Son of a gun!  So that taper that I ended up with is a good thing.  Glad you suggested that barrel lapping procedure.  I've got a pile of liners!

I need to get out to the range and do some shooting for accuracy, but I need to touch the crown up from the lapping, first.  The power levels across the chrony are good.  I also need to order some soft bullets and work with those.  I feel the ones I have now are just too hard.

Marvin,
I like the way you put that: " the art of casting."  A lot of science to it (temps, alloys, cooling, etc) but a lot of art and tricks and experience also.
