Title: hosp down
Post by: thekid on March 20, 2011, 01:33:40 PM
After a couple of years of shooting these guys with the winchester 500x, the native species are returning, 2 cardinals, lots of titmice, chickadees and golden finches.

I have about 50 recorded kills of hosps, and will try my best to keep the natives around by smacking these little buggers down, this one was taken with the 34 .22 using preds. Rob

You're right about the natives coming back. HOSP's are ruthless with other cavity nesters like downy wood peckers and chickadees, to say nothing of blue birds. Plus, they'll fight other birds off the feeder too.

Now there are still lots in my neighborhood, even just 2 yards off (maybe 35' west and 40' south of my feeding station, but I've not been able to get my window open on one in days, let alone get a shot off.

Smart little buggers.
