I am guessing you will make that a long barrel pistol? What cal.?

Yeah it's going to be pretty long.
.25!

I know, I know, you are thinking why didn't he go .30. Been asking myself that too, but not many pellet choices in .30. Maybe when there are more options we will have to explore that idea.

C'mon... tell him the truth... The only reason you didn't go .50 cal is that you were afraid they would ooze out of the barrel, and land on your feet.

Eric,  With a 50 cal. barrel, it would just pass a little gas.  Add note to breech, load with tweezers.

LOL!!

I am looking forward to see how this turns out!!

Those .50 pellets are heavy, that would hurt!

To be clear since this involves a bit more precision than me gnawing on it with my teeth, Stalwart it doing the hard parts. I am just going to bother the mailman until it gets here.

Cut to length, still needs crown and finished.

Ended up 11.5 inches. Stalwart says this is to fit into a box for shipping, but I think he just wanted the rest for himself!
Kidding of course, it will go into another project. At least it keeps him off the streets.

Looking good!! What fps do you think it will have?
Title: Re: Look at this pile of parts.

It will be on the low side for sure.
The most Eric/Stalwart has ever gotten out of a P17 was 4.8fpe, that was a .22. Based on my probably wrong and limited understanding, this could be a little higher just because of the larger caliber having a larger surface area to push against. Assuming that is right, and we know what assuming does, let's call it 5fpe, which would be 300fps with a 25 grain pellet.

I think that is plenty of power to humanely take tallboys and other beverage containers.

If it is too much lower we will explore MSP. Until we get some shots over the chrony this is all just guessing.

Link to the P17 thread, where some stuff related to this and other P17 work can be found.

Nice crown job.

Drum roll please:

10 shot string:
L: 304.6... H: 311.8

So we have 4.1ft/lbs on the low end. I think that is plenty of smack down for feral tallboys.

Nice!! Is there anything that could be done to bring the fps up or is it maxed out?

I bet that is a very fun pistol to shoot!!  8)

Those are questions for Eric/Stalwart who is the one having fun doing the shooting. There is still some work to do before he ships it to me.

I can say making it a multi-pumper would be one approach.

Matt, it is a blast to shoot. It actually has a kick! And, it hits like a freight train... eventually.

There may be some power to be found in porting it, but any real increase will have to come through MSP. Judging by the report (low volume, no "crack") there is a lot of steam left to be had within that barrel length.

What is the port size? I have 3/16" t-port in my .25 pumper.

2.5mm. We are limited to 4mm max.

Would we gain anything by opening it up?
Title: Re: Look at this pile of parts.
Post by: stalwart on February 12, 2016, 11:41:17 AM
Yes. But, the question is whether it is a cost effective gain.

I lack the experience to give a reasonably accurate, gut level answer.

Agreed..

If you can I would open it up to 4mm. 3/16" is 4.8 mm so it is very close.

It'll happen, in the future ( I want one now), but as the gun already hit the goal precisely (pure luck, at least at my end), and it wasn't cheap... Steven made the smart move, and called for the finish work.

It's a very unique experience to shoot. I shot some pellets just to feel the kick... I shot some just to watch the muzzle jump... and some just to hear the smash...lol.

It will require techniques used by PB pistol shooters. A consistent hold... but not vice-like... sighting to reflect that hold ...etc. It doesn't shoot like a BB gun, in any way.

The balance, for me, is sweet. Perfect for 1 hand. I let it dance...

Point of order, the gun was very cheap. You can get a p17 for like $40. If you paid more than that for it that is on you Eric.

Point taken!

It will always be a cheap gun, but it stopped being inexpensive a long time ago...

:)

Got it yesterday and will soon post some pictures.

For anyone who wants to claim SSPs are recoilless, I have a gun you need to shoot.

These stalwart triggers need to be installed on all the airguns. I know you are thinking "he is right they should be on a lot of airguns", but no I mean ALL THE AIRGUNS.
