Title: QB78 .22 cal. now available at Big5 Sporting Goods !
Post by: Gertrude on January 18, 2016, 11:38:03 AM
Just heard about this an hour ago.
Apparently the QB78's are getting produced again in mass numbers.
 Good news I'd say !

Unfortunately the $99 "sale" ends today,  :(  but we all know how that goes.
They'll be "on sale" again soon I'm sure.

Just wanted to share with the membership here, that they are currently widely available.
I predict Bob's "$200 PCP thread" is about to get pretty busy, and we are going to see a lot of new inquiries on them.

Got mine there for $89.00 because of a 10% discount besides the sale ... a good price for sure.

Hello all,

Was just in a store this evening and saw this rifle on the shelf. It looks alot like my crosman 2260. Are they pretty much the same rifle? Would it be worth getting one? I boght the 2260  to hand down to my daughter when she comes of age. So i was thinking of getting one for myself so as not to mess up hers. If this is basicly the same rifle for less ill just get this one.

The QB series is a copy of a Crosman, just not of the 2260. It copies the old 160. They are great rifles, easy to mod and accurate.

Keep in mind that the Beeman QB78 s sold in the "Big" stores don't get tested much. All of the 78s from the smaller dealer get tested for any significant leaks and operation.

I bought a few of them from Big Five at the sale price of $89.99 using their 10% discount... they are absolutely perfect in condition and packed very well. I have started building one for my second build and see absolutely no difference from the industry brand gun I used for my first build.

When Big Five has these on sale, and if you have a big five in your area, pick one up, or if you have plans for a couple guns pick two up if you can ... by the time you get through modding, you will end up with a couple of darn good and powerful airguns.

I dunno David.  The QB78/79 rifles are dangerous.  Just ask around here and see how many people actually shoot a stock QB.  Just a little $$ here and a little more there... pretty soon you've sunk $400 into it and have a closet of leftover guns.  :D  I'd invite you over to check out the pile of them I ended up with, but then I'd have to kill you.. because if you told my wife, she'd surely kill me!   ;D ;D ;D

Seriously though-- if you get a QB79 and mount a 9oz tank, your daughter and you can shoot most of a tin of pellets before worrying about refueling!

My QB78's have a total of $230.00 at the max into them, you will probably have less.

Gun $105.99
Tanks and regulator $89.99
Extra fittings and stuff ~$35.00
Total = $230.98

Mine was about $70.00 more because of the Venturi Bolt and the 22ci tank. Things you really don't need if you have a lathe for the bolt modification.

What I ended up with so far in my 177 gun is a rifle that gets well over 80 shots at 885 fps using 10.5gr  Kodiaks ----- a true hunting 177 cal gun ;-  )

This gun and my Hatsan Edge in 177 that shoots the same pellet at 844fps are the only true hunting guns I own in 177.

While I can see how some might end up doing that, I'm not deep enough into the hobby to do much moding. I'm just on the hunt for an affordable rifle to use on these pesky ground squirrels. trouble Is I can't get more than 50-60 yards and they scatter so I need it to reach out a bit and hit hard

The QB78 runs on two 12 gram CO2 powerlets, while the 2260/2260MB runs on one. I understand you can run the QB on one if you also install an empty powerlet along with the full one.

At that distance the only chance I have is with a PCP or HPA rifle.  I have decent springers and pumpers but I'm only good for 20-25 yards with those.  If you get further into the hobby,  I'm sure the darkside folks will try their darnedest to convert you.  I have one of those "$200 HPA QB79" and it's awesome. That's got to be the cheapest way to get into a decent powered,  regulated gun.  I've also got a converted Hammerli 850 that's a nice repeater but will run a little more.

Are you a tinkerer David? If so I think you'll like the QB series.

Yes I do have a bit of the Tinker bug. But I have a one-year-old which leaves me little time to tinker as well as many hobbies all of which I barely scratch the surface on, so I get a little jealous of people who have one that they focus on and get really deep into.

Got a few kids myself so I know what you mean... but take a look at one of our QB78/79 experts by name of nervoustrigger.  I think by last estimate he has five kids including a baby who can't be more than a few months old!

If you decide to go with the QB79 instead of the 78, let me know.  I'm down close to Waterford and will hook you up with one of the old 9oz CO2 bottles.  The new stuff you find in stores won't fit.
