Title: After a grey and got a red!
Post by: dk1677 on December 10, 2015, 01:29:00 PM
There was a grey running though with a nut so I grabbed the 850 with SHP's out. I dint see the grey but there was this red up in a lilac tree so I took a hide and waited for a clear shot. He was on the move but stopped long enough by the brush line to get a shot at 30yds. Not as well fed as the last few.                                                                                                                                                (http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb138/dk1677/R121015_zpsqqcjk43m.jpg) (http://s210.photobucket.com/user/dk1677/media/R121015_zpsqqcjk43m.jpg.html)

Nice! I think all the squirrels at my house have moved to the front yard safe from me. :(

Bummer around here for the REDs ... there fully protected and Not of the hit list of tree rats for the freezer.
Interesting species those Reds, Far more aggressive & willing to get in your face or a dog, cats domain while acting playful or arrogant than the Greys ever do.

Red squirrels around here are very plentiful and have no regulation or hunting season so its a year round event for me. You are absolutely right on their behavior they are aggressive and loud when they dont like you around them.

Nice ones JC!

Thank you Dave. They were both big boys. I have not seen any females lately.

We can shoot reds year round here too.  Ever eat one of those little buggers?  Taste any good?

Over here in UK reds are protected species but greys are on open licence and can be shot all year round. Not got one with an air rifle yet but had a few with a catapult and they are great eating

Nice shooting Dave.
I think that Red Devil in the pic might be a hybrid.  You have been shooting many Reds, and maybe they started breading with the Greys since the little Reds seem to overpower the bigger Greys with aggression? Or the squirrel factory near you is pumping out hybrids now along with the pure breed clones ;)
