Title: the optima scope on my newest 95 vortex is toast
Post by: howie1968 on November 30, 2015, 05:13:53 PM
just put a couple hundred pellets through my newest hatsan 95 vortex in 22 cal. the gun started shooting everywhere made sure everything was snug used proper form i thought maybe something  wrong with the air rifle so i took the scope off and proceeded to hit leaves coke bottles etc at 20 yards, took the scope and rings and chunked it as far as i could. think ill stick to open sights as they are adequate for what i will do with a air rifle. at some point i may but a better mount and scope but if it aint broke why fix it. the gun shoots great open sighted

They sure do shoot very well with the sights. I plink a *(&^ of a lot more than I shoot at something, any shot at a predator going for my chickens open sights would be perfectly adequate. With plinking I go for distance and am trying to get familiar with guessing wind drift. In that situation mil dots are really  nice. I've got a 3-12x44 on Talon Magnum (hatsan sniper) and that's plenty of magnification. I'd think with the 95 the most magnification you'd need is 9 and 7 is probably plenty. I do like the Hawke optics and there is a 2-7x32 mildot and parallax for $90 and 3-9X40 mil, adj objective for $100. If you get a scope I think it's a waste of money not to have adjustable objective on an air gun. So it's not serious cash for a decent scope that will hold up but if distance and mil dots aren't your thing then yeah, no need.

I think my research has lead me to consider the Leapers Bug Buster for my 95 down the road. But I may have to get something cheaper before that.

I think my research has lead me to consider the Leapers Bug Buster for my 95 down the road. But I may have to get something cheaper before that.

One of the minor curses of the Hatsans which is easily fixable, and you can ask any owner, is how far forward the scope stops and stop plate sit. It's why you'll find more than a few owners saying they got offset mounts so they could get the scope to sit a little farther back and that's with a standard scope.
My shortest Hawke on the Hatsans is a 3-9x40 at 13 inches long and I had to use offset rings to make it sit back enough to be comfortable shooting. The Bug Buster is a touch over 4 inches shorter and doesn't look like much room for rings which, if I'm picturing this right in my head is going to put the scope so far forward, you're going to be hunched over your rifle trying to see through.
You'll also need to order either a dovetail to weaver adapter or a dovetail scope mount. The rings that come with it won't work on the 95 without an adapter.
Hope this helps a little in your research.

Yes, it's helped me start over. :(

I'll see what shakes out down the road.  :D

there is a scope that i have on 8 of my other springers that i love its inexpensive and is airgun rated it does have paralax adjustment its only 4x32 but its the winchester made by daisy. ive yet to toast one have them on 2 ruger impacts 2 ruger blackhawks and 2 bone collector bull whispers. i have no doubt they would hold up to a 95 vortex. all my other rifles shot cycle is way roughter then the 95. however if and when  i will buy the offset mounts spiral groove uses and a hawke either in 2-7 or 3-9, dont think id need the centerpoint 4x16 for 25 yard shooting

I have mine sighted so the far zero is 35 yrds  :o It's a bit more power than the 95 though. But I've no need to have it 12X at that distance- 10X and over is nice when your 50yrds plus shooting. But with my gun and sighted like I have it it's just a half mil dot low to hit at 25yrds. 1.5 mil high at 50 and 2.5-3.5 mil dots depending on wind with or against you at 200ft.

I got to say, I really like the challenge of shooting pellets at distance. It's not just drift side to side with wind but elevation if not pure 90 degree direction of shot- once you get past 40 yrds or so it's quite noticeable.

Howie, I have both the scope sizes you mentioned and both on .22's...either one will work great, mine are both sighted for 30 yards and I usually have the magnification about 5 on both....everything is nice and clear and the holdovers at least on mine are about half a mildot for every 10 yards I back up.

My optima was sliding on my 95, so I added a picatinny rail, that stopped the sliding and after about 500 pellets scope is still functioning...eyes aren't good enuff for open...good luck
