Day 1 GA FT Grand Prix

Woke up at 4:30 this morning and hit the rode for for a 100 mile drive to the GA State FT Grand Prix. Arrived at Walt's at 8:00. After sighting in 20 shooters hit the course. Walt and his minions set out a great course and when you combine Walt's little evil streak with some interesting Ga fall breezes, well, it was challenging morning. My first 5 lanes were abysmal and I mean truly abysmal (I dropped 14 shots in 5 lanes). Wind across the open space of these lanes was causing me havoc. But then we made the turn to the slightly more wind sheltered deep woods side of the course. First 5 lanes on this side were much better and set the tone for good rest of Day 1.
Ended up with a 32/60 for day 1, which may not sound great, but I am very happy with it (especially after my 6 for 20 start). My 12fpe TXHC and Hawke combo worked great. Range finding even in the deep dark shadows was spot on even at 55 yards and scope clicks were perfect. Misses were my fault and usually wind related
(that's my story and I'm sticking with it).
For lunch we were treated to 40 lbs of turducken, lasagna, potato salad, coleslaw, and apple and peach cobbler
Food was incredible. I had to leave a bit early to make the 100 mile drive home. Got home and treated the rifle to a nice Ballistol rub down and myself to a few Motrin and some iced tea.
I can't wait for tomorrow. Day 2 promises slightly calmer breezes and given my now total confidence in my Rig I'm ready to go.

Cool......thanks for posting. Good luck tomorrow.
If you have any pics......that would be nice, too. I realize you're probably busy, though.

Home from day 2. Sorry, no pics. Ken took a few and I'm they'll be posted somewhere soon. Day started out great. Cool and just a light breeze. At the sight in range it looked like my zero had drifted a bit and I corrected it. BIG MISTAKE
Took 6 lanes of chasing zero to get even close. Guess what, it was back to where it was originally. Was so frustrated that I basically just went through the motions the rest of the match.
Shot worse score in 2 years
But you know what, was still a great day
Weather was perfect, got to shoot with David Slade (he did his best to help me out and keep my spirits up), and food was still excellent.
I don't remember all the winners but here is what I do:
Cliff Smith beat me easily to take Piston champ (or as we called it, he got next to last and I got last
)
Open PCP was won by David's much better half, Dottie. She had a good day 1 and held off all challengers on day 2. Roz and Walt tied for second and elected to forgo a shoot off to get to the feed quicker.
WFTF was the largest class and shot the highest score. John Whitfield took 1st and shot a 55 on day 2, Ken Hughes 2nd, and Doug Vinson 3rd.
Hunter was won by Ken's better half (and one of the excellent cooks). And sorry I don't remember 2nd and 3rd other than it was a husband wife team.
A great day in Georgia was had by all. Time to clean up the rig. Then got to spend some time this week to figure things out before the monthly Heflin, AL match next Saturday. I feel that I am close to having things really come together.

Mike, I have been trying to get in touch with ken hughes to be able to get some info on the atlanta Airgunning scene to no avail. I also tried calling Kevin allen, but his number is disconnected. How can i get in touch with either one of them??? Just trying to get some info as the AA site seems to be dead since 2011. or am i looking at the wrong site?
