Browning Leverage Gas Ram Conversion

I converted the Leverage to a gas piston this weekend. Everything went relatively smooth. The hardest part was designing a stop for the rear cap to compress the original spring. Ended up using a an “L” shaped piece of metal I found in my misc. junk bin, secured it to the work bench. Backed it up with 2x4s, for safety, and it worked like a charm. For the spring compressor I just used 2x2s to keep everything aligned and a $7 “8”C-clamp from harbor freight. Loped off one side of the C-clamp with my sawzall and attached it to the bench using a 2x2. Also, I did put a very slight preload on the ram so that the screw head has some room to wear into the back plastic cap. The only thing I wish I had done before converting was order a new piston seal. The original one wasn’t bad but did have some flaws. I am going to order one from Mike when I have a chance.
The reason I wanted to convert the rifle was when I shot it, before the conversion, it had a fairly harsh twist to the recoil. I thought about just doing a tune but then figured for $20 why not just convert it to gas. I’m glad I did. The rifle is shooting Fantastic!
I used the following 2 links for reference:

The other is on airgunhome. Just search for BT9M22-00-5
Mikes instructions were spot on.
I hope this helps anyone wanting to do the same thing.
Cheers,
Scott

Thanks for the post and information.
Did the air ram directly replace the spring or did you have to alter any parts?
I want to do this to my leverage and wonder if there are any pointers you can offer to avoid problems?
Thanks.

Scott,
Can you provide some more details on your Browning Leverage conversion? First, did it improve the performance? Second, specifically which air spring did you use and where did you buy it? I have a Browning Leverage in .22 Cal. and would like to see if I can improve it shooting precision. It does not give the group size I need for reliably eliminating squirrels in my back yard. I'd like to get dime-sized groups at 60 ft., but maybe that is impossible with this rifle. Thanks.
