Not sure I spelled that right. But anyhow I have a HW30s in .177 that's a pleasure to shoot and a HW50s in .22. Not crazy about the HW50. It's harder to cock and there is a loud spring twang when shooting. It probably hasn't seen 50 pellets thru it. Only a few months old. My question is should I get a kit for it ? Will that take the twang noise away. Also it would be nice if it cocked as easy as my HW30. Or maybe sell it and purchase a HW30 in .22 cal. That's probably what I should've done in the first place. The HW50 just sits in the safe. All in all this forum is great .I've learned quite a bit from reading on this forum. Thanks
Yea give that piece of junk away. You will never like it. Might as well give it to somebody who will.-Y
I was given a HW50-.22 a couple of years ago by fwbsport. The reason, because the severe twang translated to a horrible vibration in the stock that would give you a toothache within about 20 pellets. All I did was take the stock off and using a Q-tip forced a little sticky red grease around the main spring through the cocking slot. After 30 or so pellets the vibration was almost gone. I repeated the same process again. I'm not talking about using very much grease either. That's all I did, now about a 1,000 pellets later, zero twang, zero vibration That fixed my problem, your mileage may vary.
Well I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who responded . Especially "nced" with his detailed analogy. I will have to re read that a few times before it sinks in. Question " home rolled guides and top hat " Did you make the delrin parts or buy them online. ? I like what you did and I would like to do the same just not sure where to begin. Thanks SteveRegarding the spring did you stretch that spring or is that the actual size?
Ed,Do you not use a metal washer between the Delrin guide's base and the bottom of the mainspring? I would assume the spring end would gouge the opposing Delrin in no time flat.
